I first discovered lowlife back in 1991. A friend of mine let me borrow his "From a scream to a whisper" cd. A year later he noticed I still had it and wanted it back. So since then I've been trying to find this cd and any others by the band. I've lost a couple auctions on ebay ($60 is a little too much).

What a great surprise to find the website (permanentsleep.com). It's great! Please keep those downloads coming. I listen to them at work all day long.

I do have one request, though. Could you please put "ramified" (sp?) up? It's my wife's favorite and I want to surprise her for our anniversary.

Thanks and keep up the excellent work on the site.

Your discovery sounds very similiar to my own back in the day.
I'll be glad to add "Ramafied" to the mp3 list.
Just spare me a few days to do the deal.

Thanks for your response!

Wow that was quick service. Thanks a lot.

I was checking out your list of deserted island music and was surprised I didn't see Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance or This Mortal Coil. If you like Lowlife you should check these guys out.

Thanks again!

richard....obviously you are a 4ad fan...i wonder if your discovery of lowlife was through cocteau twins?
something tells me señor graynurse knows the bands you mentioned

but let me ask you a question...if you like lowlife, and the other bands you mentioned...tell me....Are yOu? familiar with these bands?

—breathless
—sad lovers and giants
—into paradise
—the comsat angels
—modern eon
—the associates
—in camera

i think these also correspond to lovers of lowlife...or maybe i just love them
and i love lowlife, so it makes sense!

dunno. mahbee.

Those bands

Elle, I saw your list and much as I like many of them I don't see them as peers worthy of comparison to Lowlife.

(I'm not being an arse! Just 'discussing'!

I think of these groups:

Joy Division/New Order
Cocteaus
Kitchens of Distinction
Puressence
Chameleons
Doves

Isn't good music f*ckin' excellent!

So when IS this gig?

wouldn't say kitchens of distinction....gorgeous love? more similar
to james who i only really prefer when they are mellow...otherwise
they sound like silly carnival funk....anyways....

i think these bands are similar at times to that lowlife sound
*****scars* * *ikon*****disco inferno* * ****sort sol* 2 *

<x>
much of factory records early discography is similar...minny pops, cirspy ambulance, quando quango, section 25, even at times the distractions...

here's one.... the normil hawaiians good luck finding it...they
were an amazing art band from the late 70's early 80's....but only
the 2 lp collective.
music is always a blast!

Elite muso snobbery..........something I excel at (not the only thing!)

I respond with a grin and my tongue firmly in cheek. (I loved your answer though) Kitchens like James.......ouch. I'm wounded. To compare something like 'Capsule' to 'Sit Down' is like comparing finest French cuisine to a hot dog. Yet, of course both can be great.

Are you a member on Yahoo Messenger? I'd love to argue.....oops........I mean discuss this further.

Im actually quite the fan of all those bands.
I guess its just that I put down the bands that I've been listening to for the last few years.
I tend to jump around a bit except for a few obvious that always sit in my cd player.
