pursuit of balance

By painful experience we have learned that rational thinking does not suffice to solve the problems of our social life. Penetrating research and keen scientific work have often had tragic implications for mankind, producing, on the one hand, inventions which liberated man from exhausting physical labor, making his life easier and richer; but on the other hand, introducing a grave restlessness into his life, making him a slave to his technological environment, and most catastrophic of all, creating the means for his own mass destruction. This, indeed, is a tragedy of overwhelming poignancy!
However poignant that tragedy is, it is perhaps even more tragic that, while mankind has produced many scholars so extremely successful in the field of science and technology, we have been for a long time so inefficient in finding adequate solutions to the many political conflicts and economic tensions which beset us.

-Albert Einstein 1948

Our time is terribly short.......... I breath in silence for the many lost this day one year ago.

Re: pursuit of balance

i'm sorry to see such a long melodramatic quote about what happened last september. we can quote, write and cry about this shit as long as we like but if no one really changes then it doesn't matter what anyone says. i'm not saying that grief and sadness aren't to be felt but there are very serious reasons why this has occurred and it seems that those are being ignored in favor of fervent patriotism. in this case patriotism can be a negative thing since it becomes an issue of us against them instead of people really trying to find solution for everyone... anyhow, i don't mean to sound cold about this but there are things that need to change and i'm just not sure we are moving towards that right now...

not so much a quote about what happened last Septmeber as much as a message about where mankind has been going.
As if we, planet earth, will always be satified with the major economic and political decisions of the world.

no one person is the actions and sentiments of those they must answer to. while we must bite our tongues at times that the men that run our countries, are the men we answer to, i'd still like to think that perhaps in the saner places of our, humanity, world....everyone might someday understand that
those lying underneathe the word of the hand are not the ones who are
okay and agree with that hand. this is the problem.
oh well....all things are the way they are, and most of the time this is the way
it stays until a new order or regime comes along....all i know is divine right is
not the way to go! im marking those days on the calendar until 2006 electorals come......PLEASE LET THEM COME SOON....

ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

September 12 2002, 4:28 PM

YEAH!

3 changes, heh...................

1..mike tyson taking back his title by first round KO against arafat.

2. make all Scottish castles into low-income housing.

3.Lowlife to schedule their long anticipated show in Kabul Zoo in the lion habitat. Saying that only cause I know Craig could still hold his own.

.....then the world will be a better place for all.

Nice, Very Nice

#2 and #3 superb "change" ideas. But #1 ?!?! For Christ's sake, at least pick a full blown human to beat Arafat's head in! How about Randall "Tex" Cobb or Rowdy Rodney Piper (I know he was a wrestler but it would be funny) Maybe George Forman could pummel Yasser with one of his electric grills. I believe Tyson's father must have been a rabid wolverine.
Have A Pleasant Day.

Yes, ar, I am being serious...GN decided to take the wise ass route. Give me three that are feasible: things that are based in the reality of how we operate as humans not idealized impossibilities...remember, we are only monkeys with guns....

1.one thing that has to change, as is evidenced by sept. 11, is foreign policy

2.the state of the economy (and the 'confidence' of the consumer') should not take priority over everything so that the life of any human being becomes a secondary consideration

3.the news!! that has got to change, it's all about sensational stories, a lot of filler and urgency over nothing. when you really listen and filter out the supposed news that's being broadcasted you really don't get much information about anything at all! and the people of this (US) and any country need to informed on what is really going on in our world and in our own countries.

what do you think wes - too idealistic?

ar, sounds fine to me. Now how do we get the prostitute mutton heads in DC, the thieves on Wall St, the oil and auto corp scum bags, the blinded by patriotism flag wavers, the networks addicted to celebrity and sensationalism to change their evil ways? I guess you have to convince the masses life will be livable without the SUV and "MUST SEE TV". Good luck...you are up against a vast majority of bone heads.
Oh by the way, I didn't forget what this site is...I very much got hooked by Bittersweet off the Black Sessions, I think it's the guitar that got me...thanks again to LLG.

Whats with all the Arafat Bashing?????
This is a Lowlife Site!!! Anyway, you would all defend your own countries, in any way you saw fit, if it was invaded then occupied by others. My God, look at the yanks reaction to September 11.

To Uncle Ugly

September 16 2002, 4:18 PM

There was never a country of Palestine. It was only a region of land under the authority of GREAT BRITAIN. Palestinian jews and arabs lived there. This bullshit has been going on for 53 years!! Absurd jokes for an absurd situation...so sorry you got your kilt or white fronts in a bind over it. Not to worry though, I buy Muslimgauze to balance things out (Veiled Sisters-pure bliss!). Also, in the future can we have "Yanks" with a capital Y ? Thanks and sorry for the over reaction to September 11th.
Yours-Wes
