aaliyah had a very blessed lifestyle. she had both of her parents married and living together as a family with her and her brother. she didn't have the hardships that most rappers and r&b artists had (i.e. no father figure in the home, divorced parents, overcoming domestic abuse as a child, etc.)
or at least to our knowledge she never had to overcome great obstacles that so many black youth face everyday. For this reason, I don't expect her to have the voice that people would expect a black woman to have. 'That voice' comes from hardships that can't easily be put into words. 'The voice' comes from having been rejected by those you love and those who never took the chance in loving you, ...and still coming out on top (i.e. stephanie mills, anita baker, and aaliyah's aunt.. gladys knight.)I wish Aaliyah was still here to grow into the status of these women so she could see herself as a woman in her 30's and 40's. I'm an AALIYAH FAN and I ain't crazy. I MET AALIYAH ASWELL, she was so Nice and so Innocent, she wasn't a STUCK UP person. GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT!!! When I met her in USA, I asked for her Autograph, straight away, she signed my POSTER and CD of Aaliyah, I also got a photo taken with her, she was so NICE.
Also, Aaliyah did have fame and lots of people knew her, Why do you think MISSY ELLIOT and all them payed their respects to her when she died.
