I have an A2 on which the macro switch doesn't turn it into macro mode - that's to say, the lens movement is mechanically limited, but it fails to focus in the nearer range. I presume it's an electrical contact fault. Can anyone say if this is possible to fix at home or not worth trying....
This is probably to late to help you now, but ... With help from other folks who supplied the original text and some photos, I recently put together this repair guide for the A2 macro swith assembly. Now it really should be a simple job.
I am hosting the repair instructions so all who need it can download it and fix their cameras.
