x-box=future-ps2=present soon to be past

got them all, my youngest likes nintendo64 and ps1 games a bit more than gamecube-and likes that better than psII, he's 9, the 14.5 year old loves his x-box--the graphic potential is much better on the X plus the things you mention it can be hacked somewhat difficult though--the games r the key and there are far more psII games out and you can buy more old ones cheap, at say sams or costco but x box has some great games and they are imo, better graphically as well as more complex--I'd stick with the X, btw, the consoles lose the makers money and the X costs MS about 350$ the PSII is almost a break even proposition. they both make money on the periperals and it's my understanding you can save stuff the to the X hardrive and save money that way--sony's memory cards are a RIP.
