For season 2004-05 we played 2 cup ties plus 26 league games, finishing on 33 points. Altogether we scored 50 goals (4 + 46 respectively).
Congratulations to Gavin who was our top scorer with 11, followed by Norrie on 8, then David Inglis 6, Iain 5, and Stewart 5.
Other scorers were Stephen, Chris, Ross, Andy, Robbie (each with 2); plus Edgar, Raymond, Allan M, Alan T, Jamie (1 apiece).
Man-of-the-Match honours for league fixtures were shared by Chris and Stewart on 7 votes each, with David Inglis and Jim on 3 each. Gavin got two MOTM votes, and one each went to Raymond, Andy, Jonny and Norrie.
Despite finishing on an Atholl Cup disappointment I feel Sherwood have had their best season yet, with a quality squad and more reliable players than ever. Virtually every league game turned out to be a challenge but we were never on the receiving end of absolute drubbings as in previous years. Lessons have been learned and if everybody sticks with the squad, we have the potential to turn those narrow defeats into victories next season and really compete for the honours.
Well done to all who took part over 2004-05 and made my job easier by giving notice when unavailable (and not complaining when started on the bench!). Although we conceded more goals than we scored there's no doubt we have had a decent year defensively; and I think most would agree that our 9 league wins, 11 defeats and 6 draws is a fairly modest reflection of our abilities as a team. So over the summer we'll have opportunities to try out some new ideas and tactics and lay the groundwork for an even more successful 2005-06.
Last but not least my thanks to Norrie Sen. and Richard who supported us through thick and thin. We could do with more like you!
