For season 2005-06 we played 3 cup ties plus 26 league games, finishing on record-equalling 33 points for the second year running.
Altogether we scored 73 goals (5 in cup, 68 in league) - more than 50% improvement on the previous season. Unfortunately we had 73 league goals against us, as opposed to 54 last season, so our goal difference was only slightly improved.
Congratulations to Stephen W who was our top scorer with 17, followed by Gavin on 12, Norrie on 9, then David I on 7, Stewart on 6, Iain and Chris 4, Andy and Edgar 3, Allan M 2, plus Alan C, Brendan, Mark, Ross and Stephen H scoring 1 apiece.
Man-of-the-Match honours this year went to runaway success Stewart McKenzie with 8 votes to his credit.
Allan M and Jim both got 3 MOTM votes, with Allan L, Gavin, Iain, Andy and Anton all on 2, whilst David I, Stephen W, Ross and Norrie collected 1 each.
The season started well but finished on 3 defeats. Besides injuries, the biggest problem - especially towards the end – was the unavailability of players for one reason or another, a situation made worse by late call-offs. Nevertheless with a bigger squad, increased commitment by some players, plus improved fitness and stamina, I feel sure we can regain - and keep - the winning habit for season 06-07.
Thanks to all players who made my job easier by being reliable and sometimes busting a gut to make it to matches despite problems at work, home, social life, etc.
Last but not least my thanks again to Norrie Sen. for his regular vocal presence on the touchline, and to all others who turned out on occasion to cheer on the Sherwood team.
