If I were heading to Glacier from NC. I'd catch a southern route to Durango, Co then Hiway 550 (Million Dollar Hiway) North, to at least Ouray, Co. Continue to Ridgway & take 145 to 191 in Utah. You'll be just south of Moab & in the vicinity of Arches & Canyonlands National Parks, both well worth seeing. As is Dead Horse State park.
From there work your way to Glacier. When you leave Glacier there are a couple ways to get to Washington. You could take 93 to Rexford, MT...catch the road that goes to Yaak & will take you to Hiway 2 stay on 2 to 395, just north of Spokane. At around Kettle Falls you will run into hiway 20 & can take that all the way to I-5 North of Seattle. This is an absoultly stunning ride!!!!!
If you want one that will have you hyper ventalating. Leave Missoula on hiway 12 west across Lolo Pass to hiway 3 just east of Lewiston. 3 is soooo beautiful! Stay on 3 all the way to I-90.
Be sure to see Crater Lake. We've tried 3 times, once making it to the Ranger station before being turned back!
