The morning started with the threat of rain but cleared off giving us a nice sunny day. Around 10:15 people started showing up, some on their bikes, some with their bikes in tow. Rally packets were handed out as they arrived and everybody got there first look at what the day would bring.
Rider list was Jayd Lindom, Beth Madson, Kory Morehead, Jeff Kerkow and Nels Gebben.
First challenge of the day was a 1 hr hunt for bison and military bonuses. All were same point value and points were given by how many they collected.
Jeff and Beth collected 12, Jayd 11, Kory and Nels 7.
At noon we sat down for a meal with sloppy joes, homemade potato salad, cucumbers and brownies all prepared by my wife Sharon.
At 1:10 the first bike left for the timed road course with each bike leaving at 1 minute intervals.
At check point 1 the riders had the challenge performing there driving course test. I was amazed how well everybody did. These riders are well skilled.
Top score went to Jeff, Beth, Nels. Second score to Kory and 3rd score to Jayd.
1:42 first rider out for leg 2 of the timed road course. There check point would be the general store at Sabin MN.
At the general store everybody browsed the selection of root beer and Bob Johnson taking time for a root beer float. Bob had come up to help me check in people at the check points.
Challenge 2. No BBE is complete without some mechanical work on the bike. This year they had to remove a front blinker bulb shoe it to the RM reinstall the bulb then start the bike. This is where Nels realized he didnt have a screw driver. Bob offered him one for $500.00 bucks, Nels must have accepted because he used it.
1st Beth, 2nd Jayd, 3rd Jeff, 4th Kory, 5th Nels.
Leg 3 starting 2:36. At this check point we had the barrel racing except I didnt have any barrels so we used road cones.
1st Nels, 2nd Kory, 3rd Jayd, 4th Jeff, 5th Beth.
Leg 4 was a short 10 min ride coming back to the same check point as the barrel race. I needed 10 minutes to set the cones for the next challenge.
This challenge there was 3 cones in a row and you had to drive along and drop a round hoop over each cone. The hard part was at the end of the row you were given 3 more hoops and you had to drive back along the cones and drop the hoops using the opposite hand from the first time. All this while you were being timed.
1st Jayd, 2nd Beth, 3rd Kory, 4th Nels, 5th Jeff.
Leg 5 and final leg would take the riders to Dave Southside Tap. Here we consumed some beverages and some food.
Final scores went like this.
Jayd 56 points, Beth 53, Nels 42, Jeff 41, Kory 32.
