I was poking around a couple weeks ago, looking for that monument! I stopped & asked an elderly gentleman that was mowing ditches. He said he didn't know of it but he said "Mildred, up at the house will surly know" I pointed the direction of the house & said "The one up that road" he said "Yup....but you'll probably scare hell out of here with that get-up on" I said "I'll be sure to take my helmet off" he said "Good, I'd like to get paid for this mowing when I'm done"
So off to Mildred's house.....I knocked on the door & this elderly....frail looking lady comes to the door & I explain what I'm looking for...a marker that signifies where there was a crossing over the James. She says I think I know where it's at....."jump in Leroy's pickup" so we go off a couple miles to where she thinks it's at & of course there nothing there. She's disappointed & thinks it's really "adventurous" of me to be out looking for something like an old river crossing! I tell her if I find it, I'll be sure to let her know where it's located.
I asked if I could take her picture....she said "Oh my! With my hair in curlers?" So she stood there & said said "Well go ahead I suppose"
So Bob......for the sake of a really nice Lady, please tell me where it's located so I can go back & tell her!!
