Question: is there a way to hard wire it into the bike for power? I've modified handheld radios for power before, but I was hoping there was an A/C adapter for these. I'm good at hardware hacking, but usually to hardwire something for power I end up losing the capability to go back to batteries, as I end up using part of the battery compartment for the power plug and adapter.
I think they could be useful, and might also serve as a theft recovery tool if you were able to hide all but the antenna on them. However, as I usually have my phone with me - I already have a GPS tracking tool using the same google maps application (Latitude) on the phone.
Honestly, I plan on "farkling" the Buell a bit, but I don't want any gadgets just hanging out. I'd like to make everything hidden under the fairing if possible. So if I can intergrate my smartphone into the design, without having to add another device, I think that would be a better plan. There's probably even better apps than Latitude for tracking, that's just the one I've played with a bit.
