Had a ROCKIN' good time at my benefit saturday~ ~~~
by
I'll go through the pics & post some of em soon. Between the poker run, auction, 50/50 drawing & donations at the door I came away with $1500. All in all a very good day indeed. Got to hang out with some old friends & made some new ones too. It don't get ANY better than that.
I got the checks sent out from here & The Barn & they said some guy in GA was sending more. Thanks again for that Dragon.
I want to THANK EVERYONE whether you sent in anything or just sent up good thoughts or prayers for me. Rock On I'll let everyone know what's going on as I find out myself.

For some reason they seem to like the cold a bit better than those cold blooded evo's. ;O) I'd have to say the reason they take so much longer to warm up is the aluminum cylinders shed heat faster than iron does. At least that would be my guesstimate. I'm usre someone WAY SMARTER than me could answer that better though.

the bed rail houses a square tubing frame under it that ties straight to the cab wall frame (hidden). It's uprights run inside the stakepockets and tie it to the bottoms. So basically, its a square tube frame for the be walls, anchored at the bottoms and at the top into the cab wall.
I didnt want it to be seamless so I still have a gap at the stake pockets, and the front bed wall.
Although there isnt any need for there to be other than looks..

I've seen those pictures several times now, but it looks like the shadow of someone with a Pez dispenser body and a balloon for a head on the side of the truck in the 2nd picture.... After looking at it again, it's the fan, but.......
I don't see it on the site... and I couldn't find it easily on Ebay... Someone's probably got a copy to scan somewhere... My issues don't go back that far, and I don't know the issue #.

I wonder what it looks like today, I am sure the wooden bits are falling apart,I have not looked at it since that day.
If anyone is wondering the 6th pic is me enjoying a cup of coffee after my BBG 1500 mile ride, was a bit chilly, started out at 41F,rode into a stiff wind all the way accross ND, and the high for the day was 51F just as I reached Billings, the 1/2 way point. The low was 34F and freezing drizzle,Buffalo, WY. The last 80 miles were the coldest feeling, about 39F and fog, the damp air just penetrated my clothing. There, I am wearing down and fleece, but have since graduated to an electric jacket. 1581 miles 23:05 hrs, not sure I need to do that again. But I look happy. After coffee and breakfast, I rode home, took a nap, then got up and went for a ride........yep I am and idiot, and certified by the IBA

The Buell dealers in my area are getting rid of their inventory, per the latest news.
Just wanted to pass this along. www.racinehd.com and www.ukeshd.com
I would think this is nation wide.
Loved my two Buells that I had. Might have to go and buy another one at these prices.

Usually those bikes have too little or too much stretch. I like the way your bike turned out. Nice use of the shock mount as a fender mount too. I'll let him know, see what he wants to do.
I see the Briggs & Stratton bike was still there when those pictures were taken. I miss that shovel, hope the new owners didn't FUBAR it too much, it was a class act.

A friend at work stopped by the shop this afternoon to show me his shoe.
Earlier this summer he bought a pristine all black E-Glide from another friend at work, and was riding it all summer; I saw it parked there nearly every day.
Last week, he took a "short" 3-mile ride and a dog ran out in front of him.
He regrettingly told me how he squeezed too much front brake, and you guessed it, down he went.
No helmet, tennis shoes:
(Yes, my phone takes crappy pics)
Opened that shoe right up.
$4000 damage to the 'Glide.
Be careful out there.

Back in the fall of 07, I said I wanted to put $6k away in savings for an "Opportunity Fund" so when a bike deal comes around I could jump on it. It was intended to be a two-up bike for the wife and I.
We had a family emergency that came up that prevented me from doing it... but I knew bike prices would give an opportunity like that! That's a prefect example of what I was looking for. I never imagined there would be an UltraClassic in that condition for that price. But I would sooo go for that bike if I could!
Wife and I are still planning on this process, we're just working thru other priorities first.

The Evo E glidesare just SO sweet for two-up touring.
Just ask it to be what it is and its a dream to ride.
Excellent fuel economy to boot, and a MASSIVE dealer network if you do have any problems. BOy howdy are they getting cheap!

It worked in the past, so it HAS to work now, right?
Not that it ever was the BEST way to do it, only that it was done that way in the past, so we're going to keep on doing it, no matter what.

"All this sounds startlingly similar to the business practices that got Harley into so much trouble in the first place. It'll continue to rely on the same demographic buying the same motorcycles and, since a large proportion of those customers don't have enough money to buy either the bikes or the accessories, it'll continue to give loans to people that can't afford to repay them. It'll make those loans using money that it has, in turn, borrowed, often at a higher interest rate than what's being charged to customers. The company has presented no short-term plans to pursue the design of motorcycles with appeal outside its existing customer base and is therefore hoping the customers of other brands change their preference rather than finding new ways to appeal to new customers. As Boomers age beyond their riding years and see their purchasing power massively reduced by the end of cheap credit, Harley is failing to understand either the need or the means to reach a younger or wider audience. Relying on the market for motorcycles to return to its pre-recession levels without taking active steps to see it do so seems a remarkably naive way to do business. Harley is now effectively a passive passenger riding the economy's roller coaster. If the economy goes up, a lot, it might be OK. If the economy goes down or remains stagnant, it may find itself unable to repay that $1.9 billion and be forced to seek protection from its creditors."

Harley's trying. Really- just look at the VRSC* (which all the old school hoggers hate and is too expensive for the new school) and the XR1200 (which is basically a late-90's Buell wannabe). Your demographic is dying, but you stay classy, H-D.
Meanwhile, I doubt there's a Buell to be had in any NY or PA dealership. I know- I called them all on Friday and they were stampeding out the doors. You'd think everybody would want out of a dying brand, but exactly the opposite is true- Buell has actively cultivated both their young and old customer bases, and most of 'em want more!

I think the XS650 is a pretty adaptable motorcycle. I was on Omar's site last night looking at his street tracker conversions and I see plenty choppers and bobbers. If you have enought length in the spine, you could run 5 gal fatbobs on it and fit the tach where the speedometer normally goes.

The way the VA has repeated said this is NOT causing any of my symptoms but they can't find anything else it could be so nothing needs to be done since some people are born with these.
Um Yeah OK so I might have been born with it BUT since it's caused me to have "Stroke like sypmtoms" I would think NOW would be the time to take care of it. {Actually if you go back 6-12 years ago according to my medical records I was complaining of these same EXACT symptoms}
Funny that when I finally got a CD of my last MRI & dropped it off to a real doctor {one outside the VA system} he had someone call & set up the appointment BEFORE his office even opened.
Hell I've made it this long so hopefully I can hold out until that other Long Haird Country Boy who just happens to be a neurosurgeon can do my Brain Salad Surgery
THEN maybe I can Get Back to my regualr Ridin' & Wrenchin' sessions.

we've done it before on this and other boards. We helped out a few guys and their families when they needed it. It's just too tough right now...
This economy is just so bad. I've been out of work since August. Ran my own shop for over 30 years, so I don't know what I'm going to do now. The last shop sucked all of my money and I ended up owing a bunch, so not only am I broke now, with no income, but I will have to get a job just pay off my debts. That's the only reason I can't do anything to help right now. I've been selling parts I had accumulated over the years, but that's not going well either, since as you well stated, I'm not the only one in this leaky boat, with no oars, heading straight for the falls.
Keep your positive attitude going, it is more important than anything else.
We all help out when we can. Times are tuff right now & should be made rougher.
Besides your well wishes, good thoughts & prayers go a LOT further than you know.

My friend and I went for a ride. Long Island NY to Vegas and back. We rode to Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge Bridge, Arches National Park in Moab Utah, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, Grand Canyon, down through Arizona to Vegas. Rode south along the Mojave towards Needles California, then took I-40 home. Here's some pics...
We did a SS1000 from L.I. to St. Louis, as my friend hadn't done one.
West Virginia
Charlie on I-70
When we got to STL, I noticed an odd vibration between 2-3k rpm's. We found a motel room, and I realized my headlight was out..next morning we found my front motor mount was bad...
I called a few Buell dealers, found one 500 miles west in Hays Kansas that could have one overnighted. I paid for it, and continued west towards Kansas...
We stopped in Kansas City for some world famous BBQ...man it was the best I've had....
Some more pics....
We got to Hays, found a room, and slept. Next morning, rode to Harley to chaeck in, and was told mount would be in about 10am. Great! Ran some errands, and went back at 10 to find the mount waiting. We wrapped a ratcheting tie strap around the muffler, and over the top of the frame, tightened it up, and lifted the motor right up. Changed the mount, and onwards to Colorado Springs....
On 24 between Limon, and Colorado Springs...
In Colorado Springs, view out the motel door..
We tried to get up Pikes, but it was too muddy, and slippery...maybe next time..
Garden of the Gods
Royal Gorge Bridge in Canon City..
We took 50 over Monarch Pass, and across the rest of Colorado...amazing ride!
Made it to Moab Utah at dusk..
Arches..
Bryce..
Zion..
Grand Canyon..
Vegas..
Coming in to Vegas..
Start to head home...
This part of the trip was crazy..We had steady 40 mph winds blowing directly across the road for hundreds of miles. There was smoke from wildfires blowing across the road in Flagstaff, and wicked sand storms east of there. The wind was strong enough to blow the bikes off the kickstand if left alone. Made for an interesting ride.
Moonrise over Alburquerque
A tribute to Rev Tramp...chasing this guy..
Cadillac Ranch near Amarillo Texas..
Memphis style BBQ...
After getting on I-81 in Tennessee, my bike died...no lights, start, nothing..
After a bit of troubleshooting, Charlie found this...
a broken fuse. Not blown, but it cracked, I guess from fatigue..
We rode 972 miles the last day from West of Nashville to home, it was a great trip, and look forward to seeing some more of this beautiful country.

I know what you mean about the wind! We were in Mesa Verde, Colorado. The Rangers at the park said they had never seen a wind like that. I was concerned the bike would blow over so I found a shelter to park behind.
We had a great ride around Colorado, Fall colors were perfect!

I'm a K.C. native and the pic of Arthur Bryants made me hungry. It's hard to believe there was a baseball park just two blocks up the hill at 20th and Brooklyn. The home of the Kansas City Athletics. Nice and flat out there around Hays KS ain't it?

were amazed with Kansas, it was awesome. I wasn't sure what to expect riding through there, but we were both pleasantly surprised! The Flint Hills were beautiful, and Hays itself was a cool little town. We missed their Octoberfest by a day. We were told the whole town shuts down and goes drinking!

Lee, rumor has it, on the BadWeb (buell) website, that a low mile, 06 Uly with bags went for 4500.00. Not bad...the Stelvio looks bad ass according to the pics I've seen, but haven't seen one in person...

I've got a Guzzi Quota and have ridden Guzzis for years, I'd take a Uly over the Stelvio in a heartbeat. The Uly is an engineering gem and a on of fun where the Stelvio is a blatant attempt to edge into BMWs GS dominance.
Buell getting shivved by HD is a complete surprise to me, I thought they had something good going.

Since that's a good run of pics, I'll throw all my comments, questions & concerns in this one so's not to mess with the Good Mojo.
Speaking of CatMan, how's his family doing? Didn't his Daughter and Son-in-law move out East here last year? Did he mention if things were still goin well?
And on the subject family... hows your kids house coming after last years fire?
(and if I'm getting to personal feel free to tell me to mind my own damn business)
I've got ANOTHER great Rev Tramp Shadow+Road desktop now
Awesome pics as usual! I see I'm not the only one who carry's beer that way...

...Yes my daughter and son-in-law are out in Mass. Was out that way back in August to see them and pick up the ST I bought from Ray. They are still having problems with the house, but I cant say much more then that till litigation is over. How is everyone up your way?

Rode up to Springfield, Mass today to see the museum opening. The Indian Museum curator handed over all her stuff to the city and they built a place to show it all.
I pestered the sales staff all week and they let me ride an XR1200.
As a joke I asked if we could enter the show. They said yes and we got free admission. Free is good.

Looked like it was a good event. I wish I had been smart enough to keep my 47 Chief...hindsight is 20/20. How did you like the 1200? I like the concept, but some of the motor shrouding bothers me.

Of course needs louder exhaust and could use a little more snap for throttle wheelies. Brakes, handling, style are all great. With the factory bags and tank bag, you could live with this bike everyday.
It really doesn't feel like a Sportster at all.

and I've been lucky enough to put a hundred or so miles on it. It is pretty fast, but it seemed to me that it was geared a little too short to live on the e-way. Maybe it's just me?
As a comparison, from 0 to 60, it ran very close to a Suzuki 1200 Bandit. It runs out of juice to keep up after that, but still a blast to ride. I love it.

Ok, so its high tech,a nd its a shafty,a nd its sport touring, so, I ask, other than styling, what is its edge over the ST1300?
Honda competing against itself?
Love the color and the single sided swingarm. See, I said something nice about it!

Most of the math data comes over the internet though it has the software to draw. It is totally different from all the CNC mills I've ran. FANUC control panel is different than I've seen, out of all but three machines in the whole shop.
The guy that was training me on the Mastercam got fired a little over a week ago so I have been winging it with about a 75% average on whether I get it to go or not. Still learning the new language. I am just chipping away at it and keeping my hand on the throttle.

Reminds me of a poster my Math Teacher used to have.
by Reaver
It asked if a square wheel could roll. And then listed various other shapes... and asked if they could roll. The answer is yes...but it depends on the shape of the ground over which it rolls. And then laid out the shape of the sufrace for each shape to roll over.
A quick goolge search yields a pic to illustrate that discussion.
