Here in Australia we can only shoot "authorised matches" - unfortunately PPC is not authorised. We do have a very close cousin though, known as Service Pistol. The match consists of 90 shots, is shot over distances from 50 yards to 7 yards, with the last 12 shots fired from an "unsighted" stance. A Bianchi type power factor of 120 (bullet weight X velocity / 1000) is set a a minimum.
Guns can not weigh more than 1400 grams (3 LB 1.5 oz) and must fit inside a box approximately 12" long and 9" wide.

Maximum score is 900. A good score is around the 875 mark. I hold the current NSW state record with 886.

The target used is the same as the old NRA B14, with a 6" X 4" 10 ring and no X ring. No one has ever shot a perfect score - so there is no need for X's.

Four targets are setup and patched after each stage. The targets turn to face the shooter and turn away after the time allowed for the string has expired.
The gun is drawn from a holster and the hand position is as per Bianchi "surrender" position.

The most challenging stages are the "multiples" - where the shooter has 6 seconds to draw and fire 3 shots on one target 1 and 3 shots on target 2. In the next string the shooter has 6 seconds to draw and fire 2 shots on targets 2,3 &4.

      The actual match sequence is:
At 50 yards - 24 shots --Time allowed 165 seconds
      Tgt 4 .... 6 Prone
      Tgt 3 .... 6 Sitting or Kneeling
      Tgt 2 .... 6 Right side barricade
      Tgt 1 .... 6 Left side barricade

      At 25 Yards - 36 shots
      Tgt 4 ....6 shots RHS Barricade - 15 seconds
      Tgt 3 ....6 Shots LHS Barricade - 15 seconds
Then in 35 seconds (a speedloader is required here)
Tgt 1 ....6 shots LHS barricade - reload
Tgt 2 ....6 shots RHS barricade.

Then in 6 seconds (two strings 6 seconds for each)
      Tgt 1 ....3 shots & Tgt 2 ....3 shots
      Tgt 2 ..2 shots & Tgt 3..2 shots & Tgt 4 ..2 shots

      At 10 Yards
      Tgt 4 ....6 shots in 4 seconds
Tgt 3 .... 3 shots from the right hand & 3 shots from the left hand (one hand at a time) in 8 seconds.
Tgt 1 ...3 shots & Tgt 2 ...3 shots in 4 seconds (both target are engaged in one 4 second string)

      At 7 Yards (Speedloader required)
Tgt 1 ...6 shots Reload.. Tgt 2 ...6 shots in 15 seconds. The gun may not come above the shoulders of the shooter in this position. (The shooter may not use the sights during this string)

Penalties are handed out for foot faults, early starts and skid shots are called as a "zero".

Try it out - it is heaps of fun.
