Just picked a bunch up and was curious what everyone was using. I'm using W231, and have had great success with 2.9gr under a 148gr DWC. I'm thinking going up to 3.0 or 3.1 grs for the 158 should work just fine. Thoughts?

Your too light for the 158 swc. Those loads are for 148 wadcutters.
You want to up your load to 4.0 grains of 231 for the 158 grainers.

this is a swaged 158 gr wadcutter from a Mod. 14 S&W at 50 yards.

I was trying some Hornady 158 gr. RNLs in my Clark PPC yesterday and 4.0 grs 231 was shooting pretty good. I left it sighted in for HBWCs since I'm still refining the load.

Six shots at 25 yards.

The ultimate classic target load for cast or swagged wad cutters employing 231 powder is 3.1 grains. I'm talking about 38special.
Returning to 158grain lead SWC's, 2.9 is lacking for even FWC's. A nice cast or swagged 158grain 38 special SWC bullet using WW231 should be 3.4grains.

I've also heeded the advice of using 4.0 grs of 231 and earned 12 more points towards my Distinguished Revolver badge this year!
