OT: Ebay Rant

Why has ebay screwed up all of my saved searches? For some unknown reason today all of my searches are switched to "Best Match" instead of "Newest Listed". WTF is "Best Match" anyway and who would use that as their main search function? Not only that, but some of my searches are also showing "Snapshots" instead of a list???? And one search for postcards in the collectibles category isn't even showing me that search anymore...it's just some random search for baseball. I see a tab up top for "go to regular ebay site", but when I click on it, and then do another search it's the same story. Is this happening to anyone else or just my luck?

Isn't there a window where you can click it back to 'time ending soonest'??

Same thing happening to me. Wish eBay would leave things the way they are for at least five minutes. They keep making useless changes. As for useful changes, well, you know. I think they are laughing at us.
Dan- Looks like eBay screwed up Net54 as well. Your post has shown up as five (!) separate threads.
Frank - You can re-arrange the order in any number of ways in the "sort by" window. I think I have just answered a rhetorical question.

I have about 20 different saved searches on eBay, and only 3 come up with "Best Match". One being Pre-1930's. The other searches I have go to either newly listed or ending soonest. I have no idea why. Kinda weird.

Are you talking about inside of eBay? I didn't know you can save searches there.
Anyway, if that is the case, try typing in your search data and then saving the page in your browser's favorites. That's what I do and they have never changed. I just scroll down in my bookmarks and hit the particular search I want.

Yeah, it works the same as your favorites but it's in "My eBay". When you type a search, there is an option to save that particular search. You can also elect to get emails when new items are started that are related to your search.

Hi Elm, I do have all of my searches saved in my browser's bookmarks, but ebay still has decided to rearrange some of those searches to best match. I clicked on their feedback survey and blasted them. Can anyone give me a reason why "Best Match" should be the default search? When you click on someone's auctions it also is sorting them by "Best Match"...even if that person has auctions ending...wouldn't you want to see the next auction that is set to end? Who in the hell is running ebay? Is this ebay's way to show they are getting more hits because you have to click more buttons to get to where you want to go???

Dan the "best match" was part of ebay's latest series of changes to be more "user friendly." You know, like increasing the fees. The best match gives ebay leeway to order the search results however they think best and be able to change that criterion whenever they want. For the moment, they weight powersellers very heavily in the "best match" results.

I also now also get "Best Match" as default, which is pretty stupid when you type in "Baseball Card" or something like that as there are probably 100,000 headings with Baseball Card in the heading.

It's annoying to then have to go and pick through the menu to find the search type I want.

It's the same problem if you search by player, or any other key word, it's always best match as the default now.

You might notice a button up top to take a survey about the new ebay - take it and give the new ebay the worst ratings possible...ebay isn't going to listen to anything except the survey. They won't even read any complaints.

Seriously who in the heck thinks "Best Match" would be the preferred search method???

And another annoying thing.

If you just search for "Baseball Card" by date, you now have to manually click on every year, instead of the range it used to give, ie 1968 rather than 1960 to 69, or 1934 instead of 1930-39.

What a chore, I no longer search by date. It used to be enjoyable to just browse through a bunch of 60's cards or 30's cards to see what was out there, now you can't do that. Plus if someone has a lot with mixed years in there, how do they choose which year to highlight.

Makes no sense to me.

I hate this new feature too..totally useless. I live about 5 minutes from Ebay headquarters...I'm going to print this out and drop it off at the front desk after work. Not that this tactic has made one iota of a difference in their method of operation in the past.

I'm on a Mac and using the Safari browser. None of my searches have ever changed. If I had it on 'newly listed,' it has stayed on 'newly listed.' Maybe it's a PC thing? Just trying to find a solution for you.

I'm on a Mac and I get that "best matches" business, also, whether I use Safari or Firefox.
