BVG / BGS Slab Tests - Thanks to Kevin Saucier!

I was going to post this under an existing thread, but for clarity thought I'd post it individually.

I know most (all?) of you are familiar with Kevin Saucier. Over the past couple of months, Kevin has been testing the integrity of the Beckett Grading BVG and BGS slabs for us. Although we do not want to publish all the specific tactics he tried to compromise our holders (both out of respect to Kevin's right to keep those testing methods private, and to avoid hinting at ways other company's slabs may be cracked), he has posted a few test results to his site:

http://www.alteredcards.com/becketttest.htm

Out of something like 15-20 different tests, Kevin was unable to open a single BGS/BVG slab that could be re-sealed. The only way to get a BGS/BVG holder open is to irreversibly damage the holder. (Yes, there are still ways to safely crack a BVG/BGS holder to remove a card, but it cannot be put back together.)

He may weigh in here with more information and details if he desires to do so, but I want to publicly thank Kevin again for his continued help with our security efforts.

We are also looking at giving Kevin some guest columns in upcoming "Report Card" issues. The Report Card is a free email newsletter on Grading that comes out every other Friday. You can sign up for it at

Hey Mark,

I can let you know how the slabs stand up to hurricanes and flooding the next time one blows by.

There was a story in BBCM about how BGS slabs survived Katrina.

Cool.

I am going to send all my cards to Beckett for crossover because for many years now, I have been looking to store my collection in a backlit wall display that holds the cards immersed in a motor oil/degreaser mix while a gentle waterfall cascades across the front of the case.

honestly, though,...this is rather interesting. Thanks for sharing.
