I happened to come across a website by an artist -- Ben Sakoguchi -- and was immediately taken with his work re the above. He obviously knows his baseball history (and cards, see Boston Garter style below) and the themes sometimes deal with social (in)justice, or are just plain ironic. Has something for everyone -- Gums, Garters, Women's baseball, baseball personalities, social commentary, team portraits, amazing artwork. Paintings directly inspired by vintage cards – hard to beat.
