I have seen a few black/white T206s but never one this yellow.

I am confident this one is a fake/reprint but has anyone seen one with a single color that stands out like this?  scans?

No problem with this card. Legit though appears trimmed at top.

...it's the genuine article. Perhaps a printer's scrap, but authentic either way.

so was the price jusy too high....

those corners are so sharp you could cut yourself which made me think reprint....

a minor correction though....
It is not a 'single color' -
the listing information is a bit incorrect stating that the card has 'only the yellow'

There is obviously black in the card as well.

(uniform, hat, etc.)


So - there are at least two colors (black and yellow) in the card.

I think the card was sold off-line to someone who offered a figure acceptable to the seller.

....which is the lack of most colors, further evidence that this card was not issued in a pack of cigarettes is the sharpness of the corners, wide borders and wavy top edge.

I find it interesting that most scraps (of similar nature) that I have seen come with the Sweet Caporal back.
I have seen some with other backs.... but the Sweet Cap is most common.

Quite possibly these scraps were part of the same print run.

For sure, they were sheets that were meant to be thrown out - but someone saved them from the trash-bin.


I also find it interesting that the Wagner card is Sweet Cap.
Could these scraps be brothers of the Wagner (on the same sheet / part of the same run)?
Could they be part of the 'halt the presses' - when they had to stop printing Wagners?

I would say it is completely impossible to prove such a notion....
but it is a fun hypotheses nonetheless.

I think this one may have some issues when compared to known ideas about series and distributions.

From Scot R's Inside T206, Joss (Pitching) is a 350/460 Regular Print. The Factory SC460/30 back is apparently not known with that series, but only with the 350/460 Super-print and 460-only subjects.

Is my understanding of that data wrong, or is this another case of bad front/back combo on a not-so-real card, or ... because it is printers scrap, "all-bets-are-off" (like the multi-overprint recently discussed).

card looks fine...i have a very similar example of sweeney, ny...and as far as the "sharp" corners/trimmed look...these scraps were often hand-cut.

t206nnof was a well known collector of T206 misprints, ghosts, errors, etc.

yes, there are quite a few of these, relativley speaking...

theory-

a few more mistakes at this factory, a lucky recipient....havn't seen a wagner missing color, but i could be wrong!!!!then a possibilty would exist....chances are that somebody swiped a few at that particuliar day, they are sweet cards!!
personally, condition isn't a huge factor !!!
