I have received several requests for a list of confirmed T206 OLD MILL cards. I don't recall of any Net54
lists on OLD MILL's. Therefore, here we go with a new survey.......
The star cards on display here are all available with OLD MILL backs. Of course, all 48 Southern League
cards in the T206 set are available with a variation of the OLD MILL back.
The possible number of OLD MILL subjects in the T206 set approaches 500. However, there always are
those nasty ole "NO PRINTS"....so, a lot less than 500 cards will be found with this back.
Actually, approx. 280 cards (incl. So. Lgrs.) have been confirmed with this back.
With none of the "Big-Six" cards needed, an OLD MILL sub-set of T206's is worth serious consideration.
So, show and/or tell us of your OLD MILL cards....and, we will generate a new survey ? ?

I can add the following two "star cards" to the list, both of which I currently own:

Steve
P.S. - This is my first ever post! I've been collecting T206 off and on for 30 years (since I was 10 years old). Long time reader, first time contributor!
Ted - my collection probably isn't what you'd think. I have only 135 T206s (though I do have most of the HOFers)and 25 T201s. Bought about half my cards through the mail when I was very young. I saved and saved to buy what I could, but the spending money was hard to come by. I only recently got back into the hobby after being out of it for over 10 years (a wife and three kids later). My cards are mostly mid-grade with emphisis on less common and scarce backs (side note: thanks to the infamous Scott Elkins, I am the proud owner of numerous scarce backed T206s, including an SGC 30 Broad Leaf 460). Not that long ago I made a commitment to never purchase another Piedmont or Sweet Caporal-backed T206. So now I am saving and saving to buy what I can, but with a family of five, the spending money is once again hard to come by! Life is funny that way.
Sorry to get OT...now back to the OLD MILL sub-set survey...

Hi Ted,
I got a chance to go thru the SGC population reports. It is tedious and SGC doesn't do a good job of breaking out the poses by different back types. Even so, I have a few more Old Mill backs to add to the list:
Covaleski
Duffy
Hummel
Lobert
J. Tannehill (Wash)
To give you an example of the SGC problem, they show an Old Mill back for George Browne. However, they don't say if it is the Chicago pose or the Washington. You have neither on your list so far.
Thanks much for digging up the SGC pop report on the OLD MILL's.
George Brown(e)....Washington is the one. The Chicago version is a 150-only Subject; and therefore, was not printed with
any 350 type backs (such as OLD MILL).
In adding these 6 to the confirmed list, we now have a grand total = 335
George Brown (Washington)
Covaleski
Duffy
Hummel
Lobert
Jesse Tannehill (Washington)
Mordecai Brown - Chicago on shirt
Frank Chance - batting
Wid Conroy - with bat
Dode Criss
Bill Dahlen - Brooklyn
Nap Lajoie - with bat
Joe Lake - St. Louis - ball in hand
Danny Murphy - batting
Orval Overall - hands at face level
Joe Tinker - bat on shoulder
My experience indicates that the So. Lge. Old Mill's were issued prior the regular Old Mill's.
In recent years I have acquired two original T206 collections....one with 400+ Piedmont 150 cards which
included 26 So. Lger's....all of which were Old Mill's.
Th 2nd collection also was predominantly Piedmont's (220) and 16 Old Mill So. Lger's.
Perhaps, some one will chime in with more definite information.
I was thinking about this just this morning. The Old Mill ads that ran in several southern and border state newspapers from February-June 1910 show the southern leaguer Juan Viola emerging from an Old Mill pack but state that two pictures of "baseball players" are included in each pack. This may suggest that big leaguers and southern leaguers were comingled in Old Mill packs. Recall that in the earlier 1909 Hindu ads, ATC was very careful to distinguish between major leaguers and southern leaguers in its advertising.
Scot
