I bet the paper is from the Norfolk area-I know Granby Street is just off Main St there.

Leon - Here is my Horse Track scene (a little different than the one you showed)... It appears these 2 guys might be deliberating over a bet on the ponies... Mine is from the Atlanta Constitution...

How did one acquire Old Mill cabinets? Wouldn't you assume that interested parties had to submit some coupons to get them?

Spaulding & Merrick

December 9 2008, 8:54 PM

Great piece, Leon! The pack shown on your coupon appears to be a pack of pipe/scrap tobacco issued under the same Old Mill brand as the cigarettes. Your coupon also identified Spaulding & Merrick as a wholesaler. Spaulding & Merrick, of course, is the issuer of the Plow Boy set of Cubs and White Sox. Sorry if this is too O/T, does anyone know if there's a connection between the two? Did Spaulding & Merrick sell pipe tobacco (and possibly produce cards) for many different companies?

See the movie "sweet Home Alabama" In the movie Josh Lucas walks down the stairs at his glass shop and passes an Old Mill advertising sign. Sorry it's the only part of he movie that I remember and had to look up he actors name.

Spaulding and Merrick

I believe Spaulding and Merrick were the original producers of Plow Boy Tobacco....and I think that is the reason I picked up the coupon....but heck, I can't remember why I buy some of the stuff I do....That being said I do collect tobacco and other card related coupons.
