Careless seller, or?..

December 17 2008 at 3:40 PM

My card pig career had ended 'til I discovered auction. This seller has tremendous graded auctions running with poor quality pics. I'm afraid this clouds the fact that his one raw Goudey Ruth is likely bogus. Opinions please.

He has some graded so he knows about that. No returns means no bids from me.

I don't think they would be leaving 1k on the table if they thought it was real...I am sort of pessimistic about these situations.....and it's being sold as a reprint....It does look good to me from the scan....I just doubt it is...

What was your "card pig career?"

Fake

With #144 you can check the gap between Ruth's hat and the top of the card, and also his name and the left border on the card. This one has no gap when there should be a noticeable one.

Seriously... do you really want to find out? Pull the trigger, then try to get your money back when you find out it's a reprint...

i don't get why buyers don't take the seller's word when they say it's a reprint...

taking this further what's stopping me from putting up a picture of a real cracker jack lajoie, mark the auction clearly as a reprint...then when a SUCKER buys it send them a reprint lajoie?

What is obvious to me is that he is selling mostly graded cards. The one Ruth, he decides to sell ungraded? I'm sure he sent them in and this one got bounced.

Leon's correct. If that's not the scenario, he's leaving at least $1000 on the table.

Good morals and values instilled by your parents?

Fred, the velvet hammer... Of course I wouldn't bid nor would anyone here. Though, if it were a year ago and ebay let me run amuck like them good ol' days, I'da had my bid in early. But here we are and I'll betcha dollars to donuts some other schmuck will 'pull the trigger'.

Anthony, ebaY permanently destroyed those records when they began cracking down on bogus names of several buyers whom harrassed a large number of 'counterfeiters' a while back. Apparently, these ghosts cut too deep into the company's profits. It was a blast while it lasted.

A darn good ebay name, killed because of corporate greed;
*We're sorry to tell you that your eBay account was suspended because recent account activity has raised serious security concerns. We've taken this precaution to protect our members while we make sure that the activity doesn't cause harm -- however unintentionally -- to the eBay Community.*

Ohh, it wasn't about the profits then wink.gif

Appreciate the other cordial replies gang.

Reprint

December 17 2008, 5:30 PM

As Matt pointed out earlier in the thread, the cropping of the image is a dead giveaway on many of the reprints.

Reprint, gap between hat and border and also the name is too close to the left border.

Steve,

I didn't really pay much attention to who posted this thread but I started chuckling to myself when I saw the ebay item description. After I posted my response I saw that you posted this, I figured there's no way that you'd bid on this. And as you said, most of the people that post here wouldn't either. I really detest a$$holes, like this seller, that prey upon the weak and stupid (ok, naive and stupid - or just plain stupid). If that card had a guarantee on it I'm sure someone would have snagged it at first sight. I can't believe ebay allows sellers to get away with posting crap like that.

I agree a slimy ebayer for sure, also everyone of his graded cards are
candidates for regrade (according to him)

Get ready for the "do you guys think this is a real Babe Ruth card" thread that will be started by the person that bought the card. I looked at the sellers other items for sale the pictures reminded me of the Mr. Bill show (SNL) because of the hands, you remember... Mr. Hands...

I think Mr. Sluggo just sold the Babe Ruth card to Mr. Bill....

Here's another one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290284514188

Aside from the fact that I'd tend to disagree with the seller's definition f "High Grade" he also replied with "No, it is an original" when I suggested it was a reprint.

There are some cards out there that are relatively safe to buy raw; a Goudey Ruth is not one of them.
