M110 - Let's See Them!

The M110's have to be some of the most astethically pleasing cards on the market. The colors, definition and poses are unmatched. I'd love to own one, but for the time being it would be nice to see more examples.

Any history on the cards would be nice to hear as well...distribution, scarcity, etc.

Thanks!

Here is one with some period writing on it. The writing sucks but I got it for $125 on ebay...so the price was right. The back is perfect...

Leon,

The writing on that may not appeal to some but I really think it is great!  And might I also say that I agree with J.T.M.!

I should have just said it was "the period before I got it" ...does that work for you?

I wasn't trying to be cynical.

I just thought maybe you had some sort of way of determining.

Leon, how can you be sure the writing is not an underprint? Is Kevin around?

Joe, If it read, "This biotch is kickin it at the bag and bringin' the 6-4-3 noize!" then, it would likely not period.

Great Honus btw!

Since the person that wrote it said "is" I was taking it as present day, hence the 1910's period. I know I have had it about 7-8 yrs....as for the writing on it, I am not sure when it was written. It does sort of look like an underprint though. And if it is an underprint the price goes up to $125,000....and add 3% for paypal.

"And if it is an underprint the price goes up to $125,000....and add 3% for paypal. "

Is that your price for this board, and if so, will it be available on other boards at different prices?

So thats who bought my Hal Chase

Leon,

I had that card for years. Bought it from Kit Young years ago along with the M110 Ty Cobb that I also sold on eBay at the same time.

The writing looks ball point.  I know ball point pens were around at the turn of the 20th century but they were not every day items like we have today.  In fact they were likely a luxury item.  Perhaps J.T.M. was trying out his new Ball Point Pen!  happy.gif

Leon, I wonder if that is Chief Meyers who wrote that? His full name was John Tortes Meyers. I know he used to abbreviate his first two initials quite abit and that T looks very similar.

Thanks for the heads up. I will have to do a little investigating to see. How cool would that be if it is?

Thanks so much for posting that. There are definitely some similarities. I might see if JSA will authenticate it? Could be worth a try.....How cool would that be to have a deadball era player inscribing something on a peers card!!

Leon,

I think you might have a good case.  Suddenly that J.T.M scrawl is looking better and better. I just quickly compared all the letters that were used in both sentences and they are very very similar.. pretty COOL!  But you might want to get Marshall to confirm the ears!

As posted on the memorabilia board...

March 3 2009, 4:25 PM

...Meyers signed cards lots of different ways. This one is the closest I have seen:

Definitely worth trying to authenticate, IMO. The formation of the lower case "a", the loop in the middle of the capital "B", the picking up of the pen for each stroke of the capital "M", the serifs (or flags) on several parts of the writing - notably on the capital "T" and the lower case "y"... all these make for a pretty convincing case that the two examples were written by the same person. Presuming that the "Brooklyn Bums" example is authentic, you could have a real winner on your hands! Congrats! That $125 is looking better and better isn't it?

Check out the "T" on these two sigs!

Okay, now I'm convinced....

Anyone have a copy of "Glory of Their Times" handy? Can't remember if Meyers mentions Chase in his interview.
