This is such a rich community of not only collectors, but also fans, researchers, and folks of varied backgrounds.

What hobby-related projects are you working on? or have you completed?
Can be your collection, but also includes writing, exhibitions, or research.

Also, for that matter, any other unrelated hobbies that float your boat and want to share a description?

I'll get started!
Hobby related: Collecting T-cards Cubs team sets, & Researching my ballplayer cousins
Non-Hobby related: building rainforest terrariums to house treefrogs (currently oin multi-year hiatus)

I am working on researching the Pinkerton postcard/scorecard/blank back issue. I have 26 out of 30-31 known subjects. My most immediate project is working on obtaining images of the corresponding T5 images. At this point my goal is to do an Old Cardboard article when I get the time to pull my research together.

I'm nearly finished on a small primer book on forensic light and its applications (uv, infrared, visible techniques), which can be used on collectibles. To work in the infrared range, a collector or junior scientist can buy an infrared digital camera, which is a normal everyday digital camera that has been converted to detect infrared light.

I've been doing some research on the PCL Hall of Fame trying to crosscheck the players with any existing zeenut, Obak or other PCL cards they may appear on. Once that is done I'll try for a run not unlike the zeenut run I recently completed.

what

April 9 2009, 2:39 AM

I've been working on two papers:one on recent ethical issues regarding
percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy and one on the T206 Centennial.
I much prefer the latter.

all the best,

barry

Barry: Remember -- percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy wants you to quit; don't listen to it.

Add Barry's articles together and divide by two you get a review of Hannah Montana The Movie.

Right now it's the Topps 1958 set with all variations. A little recent for this board but it is the year I was born and a challenge nevertheless.

tax season

April 9 2009, 7:11 PM

I have my own tax business. I poke my head in this vintage card site now and then. Starting to eye the calendar - next Friday after tax season its out to the Deschutes for a couple days of flyfishing.

The Deschutes is one of the best darn trout rivers in the country!

Fish on! Now back to taxes, ugh.

I am nearing completion on my book about
the Philadelphia Caramel Company. I
started working on this project a year
and a half ago and can now see the light at
the end of the tunnel. The manuscript is
going to be submitted to the editor next
week for review. The photos for the book
and a corresponding website are now complete.
The only thing left, which I just started
working on today, is to design a book cover.
If all goes well, I hope to have the manuscript
printed within the next month or so!!!

New book

April 10 2009, 12:56 PM

Thanks for the opportunity to shamelessly plug my new book, "The Integration of Major League Baseball: A Team by Team History" (McFarland Publishing). It's not officially released yet but is already for sale through the McFarland site. The focus is on the unsung heroes as well as the resisters or faint-hearted bystanders of the movement rather than the more widely recognized contributions of men like Rickey and Veeck.
