New Forum is open for registration

Ok....it looks like all but the last few hours of posts have been transferred over so registration on the new board is open. PLEASE please be patient as I too am learning all of this stuff. We can come back to this thread for questions and answers. There are a few personal questions asked in registration. The first one is your date of birth. It is there because there is a law about allowing children 13 and under to be on the internet. It's something like a COPPA law. I don't really care what you put but if you get funny and put something like 13 yrs or less you will be denied access. Do that again and it might be denied permanently as a safety precuation. So we shall see how this goes. Wish me/us luck...Again, this (the old) forum will stay completely open for a few days but I do hope everyone goes to the new board because in a few days you won't have an option. Remember that you need to put your good email address as that is where a link will go to to be clicked on. IF I don't know you or something looks weird you won't be approved. You CAN stay anonymous while posting on the board but not if you get confrontational or in an argument etc.... You can NOT stay anonymous to myself....In that case you can lurk only....take care

Hey Leon,

The link in the email didn't work. Did it reject me because I am under 30 years of age? hehe

Thanks - Rob

Re: New Forum is open for registration

I think Leon simply has to verify all the new users; my guess is that "page not found" warning is of no moment. If you check on the bottom, all people who just registered are there.

April 9 2009, 5:31 PM

I got about 30 registrations in the first 2 minutes. One thing I am not seein is a spot where a full real name is needed. Eventually that will be a necessary evil to participate. I just approved a few folks but hang in there...we will get this worked out. OF course the fee is 0.....please be patient everyone. I am doing the proverbial drinking from a fire hose right now...thanks...

Considering I just filed today, I'm not getting your joke. I did everything I could to make my taxes be a wash this year on 4/15, but I just never get the damn AMT figured right (until, of course, it's too late and I have to file.)

To everyone having troubles with the URL in the email, remove the /forum portion of the URL and visit that.

To Leon and crew, in the vBulletin settings you'll need to specify the proper URL for the forum to fix the issue.

Once you click on the link and get the page not found error go to the new forum and you'll be up and running. Even though you get the error clicking on the link activates your account.

Same issue here. I got the e-m for the last step to activation but the AOL link continually yields a "No Page Found" error. Tried several times.

I clicked the the link several times and am listed on the bottom on the new forum but cannot post a reply bc my account has not been activated.

The new forum is a little bit dizzying but I think we will get used to it. I will take special requests later but for now if anyone is having a problem registering or logging into the new forum please post here or email me. I have approved everyone so far. As for issues with a specific situation we can hold those for later....I appreciate everyone's patience....Also, there was a question above about changing a security color or pattern. That can be done but let me get to it later.

Thanks for the support but I sort of do need to know. For some reason some folks are getting in without me sending a password (it's a manual one by one process) and others aren't able to. So.....I do appreciate your thoughts but if folks aren't able to get in it's ok to put it here. As for other requests I would appreciate those being held. I think we are up to over 130 new registrations in about an hour or so. The chocolates are running down my legs...or at least I hope those are chocolates. ....thanks again.

I'm sure once the site is up and running and the glitches are smoothed out you will find that the new site is just as easy to use as this site, with a lot more to offer.

You don't have to use all the bells and whistles, so it can be as simple or complicated as you choose.

Give it a chance!

Re: New Forum is open for registration

I believe the reason for switching is because this hosting site is completely outdated, gives no service support, has constant maintenance times (although who knows what maintenance they are doing), and for many of us screens will go blank, be blocked, etc for periods of time.

Why not just be happy?

You hit it on the head. We have had this debate in the last 6 months. Actually I wanted to change for a long time due to all of the issues. It was most everyone else that didn't. The last informal poll we took it was about 80% or so, that said they wanted to change as things had gotten that bad for them. I agreed and here we are. I am fairly sure once we get the kinks worked out the new one will be better...but ya know what? For the rest of the year, if we really hate the new one and 80% vote to come back here, then it will be favorably considered. That being said we will have to at least give the new one a chance once the kinks are worked out. I would hope most will be fixed in a few days...thanks

For some reason it doesn't seem like the email part of the registration is working...and it might not have to. Peter Spaeth just got into the other board while registering and logging in AND without getting an email. This is not how it's supposed to work but it did. I will see if he (hi Peter) will post what he did over here.....hang in there.....Also, if anyone is in the other side and can explain what happened maybe we can get to the bottom of this....I wasn't supposed to have to send out passwords manually. I tried it with Peter, a few minutes ago, and he never even got the 1 (I really sent it twice from two different places) I sent him.... It's been 3 weeks since I did my own registration and some things have changed too. Others' thoughts?

WinPitcher, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

I'm awaiting activation.

He is registered in the system so it had to come from him. There is complete control, with respect to security, for every user. There wouldn't be a troll for more than a second even without my initial approval. The backend of the software is very feature rich, unlike this one.

Keep posting for me over in this thread but the da** system is hanging up on the other side at the new forum....hopefully it's just getting bombarded, which is my guess, and is running slowly.

Joe,

After you click on the activation link in the email --- and it doesn't work --- remove the /forum part of the URL and then try again.

Trae suggested this method earlier today and it worked for me.

Thanks let me reiterate what you reiterated too....

Trae suggested this method earlier today and it worked for me.

ALSO, I did go manually approve all folks in this string that had an email in this string....I might need to wait on some help if this doesn't work....though I will keep poking around. We'll get there...

You haven't even tried to register yet. There is no email address for you in the new system as there was for everyone else having this issue.
