Re: Interesting Child Ruth Image?

I recently posted a snapshot that I thought might have been a young Ruth before he was famous, and the board pretty much shot it down as not him. But it was good fun and there is no reason not to post yours here.

I need to say "Thank You!" A Co~worker of mine(who's from Alabama) told me a couple of weeks ago that he has a friend who's Sister is also his Mother!? At that time(Up until now!)I just was so confused, my head actualy hurted! If ya know what I mean...........
Since you edjamacated me that the Babe's Sis is his Mamie, I now truly understand how this can be! What a relief happy.gif

Can I git a look at the photo you mentioned?

Interesting Child Ruth Image

Has anyone noticed anything else unusual + unique concerning Ruth's pose in his 1911-12 St Mary's team photo?

He's wearing a right handed catcher's mitt? Not a big deal...he still played catcher left handed. He wore the mitt on the wrong hand.

American flag has 48 stars dating the pic to 1912 at the earliest when Arizona and New Mexico became the 47th and 48th states.

Instead of noticing unusual and unique stuff about that image on the Sporting News card, I'd prefer to notice aspects of the photo that you've mentioned but has yet to be posted.

I will post my photo tomorrow.
Remember as Slidekellyslide pointed out. Ruth as a 17 year old wearing his mit on the wrong hand isn't a big deal.
I agree, so please keep this in mind. Until!

I see....

April 28 2009, 4:27 PM

two bow-legged rhinos fighting over a bowl of Cocoa Puffs,... ankle deep in a muddy pond,... surrounded by 6-foot tall reeds,... under a hot sun...in the Bronx,...where home plate used to be...and they're waiting in line for a Barry Sloate autograph and photo opp.

weird.
anyone else see that?

1. What makes you think this is Baltimore?
2. A wood fence? Most fences in America at this time were probably wood.
3. The kid is right handed. No indication that Ruth every switched back and forth. Even when learning.
4. The smaller boy at right resembles a girl in my opinion. Also resembles Ruth for that matter.
5. This image is one of thousands of pictures of kids playing ball in the early part of last century.

In my opinion...not even close to Ruth...

Just waiting on the ear thing for confirmation.

For your consideration...
the smallest child is now wearing a girl's shirt, anyway...

Re: Interesting Child Ruth Image?

I am almost 85% uncertain that it isn't not Ruth, but I'd like to pose some alternate theories as well.

1) It is Chief Bender and is sold by the714gallery.

2) It is Marshall Barkman's grandpappy, bringing extreme baseball and punk classical music to the Generation C crowd

3) It is a 11 year old middle class child positioning the bat in a surreptitiously lewd manner, causing his comrades to giggle wildly as their mother snaps a photo.

However, the Ruth theory is very plausible. His mom stopped visiting him -- his mom is not in the picture. Wood fences were very uncommon during this time period and it IS mentioned in his bio. Since wood was a scarce resource most fences of this era were made out of vinyl or composite plastics. Finally, there are some trees in the area and Babe Ruth mentioned a tree at some point in his life. If all of this is mere coincidence, then my name ain't Peter (which, luckily, it isn't).

Now... back to writing my paper on The Matrix and its connection to various schools of philosophy...
