- The example of Tibet -- ill chosen
It seems that the example of Tibet that I had read is probably the Chinese version of events. The Indian version, where the Tibetan government resides in exile, depicts the people's uprisiing at Lhasa and the PLA's massacre of these people.
Why can't people just be honest?
It upsets me greatly that the series of events which I had been led to believe as true are not.
'China has always tried to justify its policy in Tibet by painting the darkest picture of traditional Tibetan society. Tibetan society before the Chinese invasion was, by no means, perfect.'

Quest for solution
'Hope for the survival of Tibet and its people and culture now lies in the ability of the International community to persuade China that it should act with moderation, respect the Tibetan people's rights, and enter into earnest negotiations with representatives of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people in order to seek a peaceful and mutually acceptable solution, in keeping with the legitimate rights and aspirations of the Tibetan people. Read Without Example
The example of Tibet given now seems sheer fantasy. The only hope being is that fantasy can come true in Afghanistan's future. I am grateful to those who have outlined the bias in my post and I hope that here I have made some degree of amends.
The example, however, should not take away from the fact that there is an alternative approach to the Afghanistan situation.
Afterall, we don't want to invade Afghanistan or colonise it. So the resolution still stands. Lay siege to Osama Bin Laden, contain his forces by meeting his force with world force, and assist the Afghan people to rebuild Afghanistan.
Surely, it is worth a try.
