Stranger Down, the Good the Bad, and the Ugly

Stranger Howard Hein, and buddy Wayne Koppa were heading to Alaska, late last week, just north of the borderof Minn, and Manitoba.......Howard, EJ'd a deer.

Current count Deer 0- Howard 1. Sounds like he pretty much bi-sected the deer. The deer will not be telling his realatives the story. Howard's GS not good.

You may remember Howard and Wayne were the unstoppable force in Arlene's woodstove project last Sept.

Howard, while did not suffer any serious injuries to his vitals, or head, is currently incapacitated.

According to Wayne every limb is either screwed, pinned, plated,or all of the above combinations.

Howard is in good spirits, and Says the Good Nort Dukotans,in Grand Forks are taking great care of him, in fact he mentioned to Wayne, he hopes to be air ambulanced to Grand Forks, from wherever his next altercation lands him.

Now that's a good attitude. Howard will not be making the MN1K as it stands now, but having worked with the guy, I would not count him out for long. They are hoping to get him to the point of travelling by air back to Michigan.
Wayne has been by his side for the duration

Give him a call on his cell for some encouragement @ 817-991-8673

Bob, Thanks so much for the update. It was such a pleasure "hosting" you, Howard, Wayne and Snod last fall. I'm sure Eddie and Howard will enjoy comparing their deers to see whose was the biggest. Eddie's deer gets bigger every time he tells the story and to date it was so big it had its own zip code. (and don't think for a minute I don't get the double meaning of all of this.... Men and their deer.... hmmm...)

Anyway, I digress. Here's to a speedy recovery, Howard!!

(I'll be sure to pass this on to Eddie as he is off-line for a while. Last we spoke he was heading northwest out of Cuba, NM toward the 4 corners.)

Heal well Bob

Bob, Sorry to hear about your encounter with the deer. Those deer look better in my freezer than on the roads.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Twenty five days and 10 screws later Howard has been repatriated to his home without adult supervision. He has a new set of wheels and can reportedly move himself from the bed to the set of wheels and to the other important place where everyone likes to sit. How he takes care of such personal activities is not entirely understood but he sounded pretty happy with the move.

Anyone wanting to ping him can do so at Howard.Hein@L-3com.com

Thanks to all of my "Strange" friends for all of your emails and best wishes It certainly helped!!
I am home now but limited to wheelchair and various seated positions. But can attain the most important seated location.
Once I hit the deer and stopped rolling (seemed like hours rolling) the situation began to improve. I had a true friend in Wayne at my side for several days. And the best health care I could ever imagine!!! Every one in Grand Forks that I met sincerely cared. And the orthopedic surgeon was the absolute best. There may be a titanium shortage the year though based on what he used on me.
After a week in the local MI hospital I am home and on the mend.
Will be thinking of all of you on the MN1K.And please watch out for those suicide deer!!!!!!!!
Warmest regards
Howard

Hey Howard

June 11 2009, 10:03 PM

sosunds like you doing OK, thats good to hear. Even though your stay in Nort DuKota was unplanned, at least you got to meet some of our finest.

I am hoping all the broken parts heal up stronger than ever... I'd hate to see Wayne's Army of One get the upper hand, we know the FORCE is with you.

Certainly, you could not ask for a better friend than Wayne, I am sure that was comforting to say the least.

Heal fast and Strong

Bob

Howard, I'm so glad you're okay. We'll miss you in this year's MN1K but it sounds like you'll be fit to make the next one if you want to.
