Illinois to start using Photo Radar on July 1

BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING LEAD FOOTS !.....

Illinois will begin using photo radar in freeway work zones in July. One mile per hour over the speed limit and the machine will get you a nice $375.00 ticket in the mail. Beginning July 1st, the State of Illinois will begin using the speed cameras in areas designated as "Work Zones" on major freeways. Anyone caught by these devices will be mailed a $375.00 ticket for the FIRST offense. The SECOND offense will cost $1000.00 and comes with a 90-Day suspension. Drivers will also receive demerit points against their license, which allow insurance companies to raise Insurance rates.

This is the harshest penalty structure ever set for a governmental unit involving PHOTO speed enforcement. The State already has two camera vans on line issuing tickets 24/7 in work zones with speed limits lowered to 45 MPH. Photos of both the Driver's face and License plate are taken. Pass this on to everyone you know who might be affected!!!

I don't think there are enough photo radar cameras in existance to cover the number of Illinois Highway Construction Zones. Thank you Davis-Bacon.

I saw the signs warning about this when I was in Chicago a month ago, but no one was taking them seriously then. In fact, I was going 65 mph on the hack in "construction zones" and watched as traffic blew past me at much higher rates of speed. Good luck with this one.

I read something recently about MN drivers receiving traffic citations from IL for cars they no longer owned, or had never driven in IL. Given the dismal revenue situation most states are in, fines like these (bogus or not) will only increase as politicians "unable" to raise taxes will find other insidious ways to do it.

I'm with Etlicher.

Time to re-rig that little flap that comes down and covers my license plate.

Eh, this happened back in 2005. If you go back and look at the email that everybody has been circulating, it's dated 2005. See Snopes:http://www.snopes.com/politics/traffic/illinois.asp

Personally, I have yet to see either of the two photo radar vans actually in use, nor have I heard of anyone actually getting a ticket from one. That being said, too many highway workers get killed because people drive like idiots in construction zones, so if this would help some of the idiots maintain control of their land yachts and not kill people, I'm all for it (although it doesn't seem to particularly slow down Illinois idiots).
