I don't have the time to hit all the major forums that have an interest in the IBR, but I am updating the FJR forum with updates many times throughout the day.
So if you need to have your IBR 'fix" in between Tom Austin's Daily Reports, you can see what's happening in occasionally near real-time here:
I doubt that Dale's website needs promoting since most LDRider's know about it.
Besides, it seems to me that a "Thank you" instead of a "snarl" is the appropriate response when a visitor is trying to be nice. Just saying...........
"Besides, it seems to me that a "Thank you" instead of a "snarl" is the appropriate response when a visitor is trying to be nice. Just saying........... "
Blah blah blah.
I guess we should all kiss his feet, right? Oh Dale, you're so cool! Better?
Y'know, I've had my differences with Dale over the years, but what got your panties into such a wad? I keep seeing that this thread is updated and every freakin' time it's "blah blah I hate Warchild". Geez, open up a new bag of Cheetos and chill out.
Whatever anyone thinks of Dale, his forum, whatever-
At least we're seeing some not quite but almost real time updates and info.
Save your energy for the important stuff...
You are certainly entitled to your opinions. But that doesn't mean that you need to spout off about it in a thread that has nothing to do with Dave/Warchild.
That's called threadjacking and it's frowned upon.
This thread was created to get updates on the IBR. Not talk about your opinions about the person providing the updates.
I for one am very happy to be able to get any updates. Info on this years rally has been really hard for me to come by, and I would not have checked the FJR forum without Dales post pointing me there. I think that going out of your way to talk bad about somebody, and then not having enough self worth to sign you name is pretty low. If I ever find out who Mr. AnyMoose is, I will be certain to avoid him (or her) as someone whose does not posess the strength of their own convictions. All talk and no walk. Something you don't encounter too often in the LD community.
Dont know if anyone on this forum is close to Wausau Ws but this guy is having trouble at 530pm mn time and thought someone may be able to help.
I just pasted this in here
Kirt Dix has had a drop on the right side of his C-10. He is in need of a
right side saddle bag antler and right side foot peg bracket - not the peg
itself. The metric bolt that Concours owners use for an emergency foot peg
would also be helpful in lieu of the peg. He would like to buy, borrow, or
what ever these pieces ASAP.
He is located in Wausau, WI at the Hardees on Stewart Avenue.
I checcked on dave jones the Australian. He is about 100 miles west of Saskatoon SK in Canada. I then went to yahoo maps and it shows he has 700 miles to go. Going to be close...
50 riders or so were poised at a nearby bonus waiting for the time window to open. So with about 30 minutes before the penalties started they all came in together, quite a parade. I haven't been able to account for Joe Legget but all the other Strangers look to be in. The other rider of note that's still out is Eric Jewell, there's just over an hour before it's DNF time.
"I just got off the phone with someone at the finish line. The word going around there was that Davo hit a deer between the bonus in Sand Point ID and the finish line. It was serious enough that they had to close the road down in both directions. Davo is in serious condition, but no one really knows exactly what is going on at this point."
Davo is from Australia. Don't know the man personally, but good thoughts/prayers to him.
<<Counselor Smith mused: I'm still pondering the pluses and minuses of having a bonus set up so that 50 riders show up at the finish en masse on Day 11 . . .>>
Think of what it will be like when all the warriors close in on the finish of the Hoka Hey thingy hoping to win the pile of gold.
To me the last few miles of a long rally are real treasures (well, come to think of it ... most of them are). I love heading back to the barn and all of a sudden you look ahead and behind and there's a whole bunch of other riders who have been all over North America and now everyone is on the same runway gliding in for a landing.
Only those who paid admission can experience something like that. It's not cheap, either.
In '07, it just happened that during the last few miles the song that came up in my XM radio was the Ode to Joy from Beethoven's 9th Symphony. And the song just before that was the Easy Rider Ballad. What a memory to have.
Let's send out good thoughts that everyone who got banged up in the IBR this year will heal well and heal quickly.
I met Davo briefly in Spartanburg. Nice guy, great attitude. Late last night the worst happened. Davo's head injuries were too massive to survive the surgery. Very sad news. My condolences to his family and friends all over the world.
This was posted on FarRider and ZZRBikes.com forums:
"It is with the heaviest heart and with many tears in my eyes as I type this from Davo's computer, but we just received the phone call that no one wants to receive. The nurse just called to inform us that Davo has just passed away. As I sit here at his desk, I look around and I see items and photo's that Davo treasured. There are photo's of him and Wil together, photo's of the kids, and his "GO FAR" number plate surrounded by his Iron Butt Association plate cover and his numerous IBA certificates that demonstrate his love and passion for distance riding.
"Throughout today, I have fielded many, many phone calls from people from both here in Australia and overseas all relating small stories of how Davo enthused, motivated and/or encouraged them beyond what they thought they were capable of. And this typifies the type of guy he was. He was always so energetic and full of life. It is a crying shame to see it cut short - although if Davo had a choice, we all know he wouldn't have it any other way. He was living life to full and doing what he enjoyed. While we all are going to deal with this in different ways, Davo would always want us to adopt his attitude and look on the bright side. He would want us to remember the fun times and fond memories that each of us have with him.
"On behalf of everyone sitting here in the room with me as I type this, a massive thank you for the support that you guys have out poured so far. It is very much appreciated. I will come back on here when we have more news about the arrangements that I am sure a lot of people will want info on.

He certainly did have friends all over the World, and I'm honored to have met him briefly in Spartanburg as well.
May you rest in eternal peace, and condolences to your family and friends.
I knew Davo a little from the Concours.org forums. Before he got his
C14, he and were riding identical 97 Connies. We had
some discussions on setting them up for LD riding, fuel cells etc.
He'd posted here a few times and had talked about
trying to do the mn1k either this year or last.
I was very saddened to hear of his passing. While I never
met him, everything I've read and heard was that he was a
first class guy and a great ambassador to our
odd little niche sport. RIP.
My condolences to Davo's Wife and Kids, his family, and his friends....
I feel I have lived a life blessed with the acquaintance of some of the finest people who have ever walked the earth. You "Strangers" out there have been a big reason for that in the recent past. You welcomed me with open arms, big smiles, and funny jokes while teaching me to become a better rider and a better person. I cherish you all.
I know it wasn't something special you did just for me, I've watched you all do it with every rider who has ever shown up at a TeamStrange event for the fun! You are an amazingly giving group of people, I just want you all to know that.
Davo had all the same qualities that make "Strangers" stranger. I just wanted you all to know that.
Dave came very close to joining us in 2008 for the MN-1000. He had his pick of rallies to participate in. He wanted to compete here. In the end, he was unable to work out the finances. It was because of all you and the quality of TeamStrange events he wanted to ride here.
I wish you god speed Davo, I will miss you...
And you Stranger's- Happy trails, be careful out there, and keep the rubber side down...
Critter
I had the chance to meet and talk several times with Davo in Spartanburg. He was one hell of a nice guy, and will be missed by the community.
Dale puts on a show of being tough, and gave me a hard time about my cell. But when we met up in Spartanburg he was happy to be able to bless off on my cell. And when I arrived in Spokane he checked me in, gave me a hug, and said he was glad I made it. I just was short points to be a finisher.
Dave it was so nice to meet a STRANGER in Spartanburg. You are a person who truly represents what the long distance riding community is about. I am so glad I got to hug you in person. -Carol
