Twenty three riders accepted the 36 hour challenge last night after the Liars Banquet at St. Paul H-D. Their mission is to ride to Carhenge, three miles north of Alliance, Nebraska and take a photo for a whopping total of 13 points. Of course, a major cell of thunderstorms stood in the way somewhere along their route.
It's only 665 miles (or a little less depending on your route) from the start to Carhenge, but will the effort required to make this initial stop eat up too much time and energy for these riders? The 24 hour riders will be gathering shortly for their start, with a full evening to plan and rest. While they too will likely face their weather moment early on this morning, these riders have some definite advantages.
Nevertheless, the 36 hour rider who makes it all to Mystical Horizons north of Carbury, ND (three miles from the Canadian border) should be in a position to pull ahead of the most ambitious 24 hr rider.
I was in Canby doing a parade with the hack, so I was already halfway to Watertown. But surprisingly, got done with the parade early and had time to ride southeast to Fulda and do another parade. Oh well, another time...
