TeamStrange lost one of our best today. Peter Behm, 2011 Iron Butt winner & MN1K Rallymaster passed away this afternoon after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer. For those of us who knew Pete, he was one of the kindest & most humble people you could ever meet. It is hard to imagine a world without him in it. More than anything we want to believe that Pete & Eddie are together right now talking about their wonderful adventures.

Please post your thoughts & memories of Pete. Photos, etc. Those remembrances will be comforting to Paula & the rest of Pete's family as they start this long journey of grief.

We will post information regarding Pete's funeral as soon as we have them.

Peter

December 30 2016, 10:44 PM

I first met Peter,at the Butt Lite start,in 2006. We just happened to sit at the same table, during the sign in. I was not riding the Butt Lite, just helping with the sign in. Pete kept popping into my life here and there, always a kind, humble gentleman Several years later, I remember one time when we were gathering at the Singsaas Lutheran Church, near Hendricks Mn. Jay Nelson was asking about the Team Strange rides, etc. We got on the subject of the Iron Butt Rally. I asked Pete to chip in a little info, since he was the reigning champ at the time. Pete explained how the ride worked, and that he thought he got lucky and had a pretty good ride. The people of the church, had no idea what a great feat it was,and Pete's description did not help any. Truly a humble man! 2016 has taken yet another great man from this earth.

Oh, what a hell of a ride my Husband, Friend and trusted riding buddy and I have had. Not just this past year but 20 something yrs. When Pete 1st introduced me to long distant motorcycle riding, I had no clue how many fancinating, loveable, and kind people we would meet. We have truly felt blessed. I Thank you, for this post, the pictures reminded me of Pete's twinkle he had in his beautiful eyes. This morning we had even talked about how it was lost from all the suffering and he was nearing the time to pass. We talked of what kind of motorcycle was waiting on the other side. I do believe he is riding a BBG or Top down tour or similar in Heaven. The twinkle is back and he is having a blast.! Love yah all! Paula

Re: Pete

I was fortunate to take several moto adventures with Pete over the years... especially this last year.

Pete looks into the distance near Moab earlier this year.

At the same location he and Kevin Powers share a moment

Pete could ride circles around me in the dirt and the street. I was shocked when I caught up to him on this trail our 1st time in Moab. I was confused as to how I could have possibly caught up to him. This is where I learned of Petes aversion to heights... we were riding along a canyon wall and he was terrified!

This past spring he overcame that fear

Pete had a goal of putting 250,000 miles on his FJR. It was starting to give him a few problems and needed some TLC at times to get started, such as here. I know he was close to his goal, but I'm not sure if he made it.

Pete makes himself useful.

I was escorted by Pete, Paula and Rick on my 1st visit to the IBA memorial.

... and got to ride on the Playa in the Black Rock Desert with them.

This is Butt Lite V, at the checkpoint in North Dakota. One of the bonuses on the leg was at the Spam Museum:

Purchase two individual servings of Spam at the Spam Museum.
Turn them in with a receipt showing they were purchased at the Spam museum.
You will have to eat one serving (or at least take a bite) at the scoring table to earn this bonus.

Of course if Eddie said you had to eat some Spam, you had to eat some Spam. Didn't mean you had to like it.

Must have worked since Pete went on to win the rally.

Animal!

January 2 2017, 2:12 PM

Although I am new to our sport, I've been fortunate to have been introduced and accepted by my adoptive MN family. Pete introduced himself at this last years 2016 MN1K. Totally awe struck on my end, this fella couldn't be a more humble person. Small chit-chat on his part was logged in my mind as such valuable information. He had an answer before I finished my question, odd. My next run in was at Butt Lite VIII. A group of Strangers had invited me to dinner the night before Tech. Casa Bonita, somewhere in the bowels of Denver was where I would have a conversation that would separate an acquaintance from a friend. Pete asked about my family, home and preparedness for the next 6 days. He must have taken notes? Somehow he picked up that I may need a hand later on.

Fast forward to I think the late evening of day 2, Butt Lite VIII. While scrambling across Washington I received a phone call. I didn't recognize the number being displayed on my Garmin. I thought maybe I missed a bill payment of some sort? I answered with a quick,"Hello?" I explained to whoever was on the other end I was on a motorcycle. To my surprise the caller has identified himself as Peter Behm, from Minnesota. In our talks he gathered I wasn't married, no significant other to call and check in on me. He went straight into asking me questions,"Hows your rally going? Are you getting enough sleep?" I answered his questions and we began to chat for a minute. I remember asking him about his sleeping patterns while rallying. He explained to me that when he rallied, he would sleep 2-4 hours at most daily. He told me that his body just clicked when it was rally time, that he turned into an ANIMAL! After our conversation ended I giggled for hours.

I had no idea Pete was sick. I took it for granted that I would continue to see him through the years. At the Team Lyle, Pete told me about the cancer. How could a guy I met just a few months earlier, make a grown man cry most of my trip home to Kansas City from that event.

I appreciate the little time I had with him. I'll continue to remember his advice. I won't forget the Animal, whose phone call meant the world to me.

My deepest condolences to his Family.

I consider myself very fortunate indeed to have met Pete. I ran two of the Mn1Ks that he was rally master for, and I had so much fun. He was such a great man - he went to great lengths to make sure those rallies were a good time for us. A real gentleman and motorcyclists motorcyclist.

Attire

Some of us felt it would be appropriate to sport some Team Strange rally shirts this weekend. I'll be wearing my TWD Blue 2011 IBR shirt the strangers had made for that rally to honor Pete.
