Hi MN,
42 was the meaning of life, the universe, and everything, wasn't it? (Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.)
The obvious question that I get from Christians, especially the more fundamentalist ones, is, "If you believe in nothing. Why don't you just go out and kill yourself then? Which is a dammed stupid question. My regard for your intellect went up a few more notches, due to the absense of such a trite question. Don't take that as being patronising.
Honestly, it was unworthy of me to be so catty about it, in my previous posting. It is just that I sometimes feel, that if someone makes that statement again, (it is hardly a question). Well, I will probably explode.
You did misinterpret me a little. I said that what we regard as reality, may be an illusion. I do assume I exist. That is my reality. However I cannot assume you exist. For example, a friend of mine posts on the internet under several different personae. They argue, abuse, harrangue, and ask questions of one another. I know that is a simplistic example.
To answer your question in detail. I will have to give it some thought, as to how I can be brief. These are things best argued over a bottle of good wine or two, over a period of hours. Philosophers, are people who get paid to do that professionally. To distill my life's philosophy into a few paragraphs, may be beyond my ability to do so. Despite my pride in my skills, in my native tongue.
On a lighter note. Whilst I admire the mental rigour/discipline of the Philosophers. I regard Philosophy as a mind disease, cured by farming. (See how you go with that conundrum.)
Life was meant to be funny......Ralph.
