Yes I do think education is the key. Not that it is a magic wand that will make PNG rich overnight - but nothing will change unless and until there is a radical development in that department.
Sadly, the very qualities that a good education fosters are opposed to what many devout people see as Christianity (or Islam, for that matter).
The problem is with "fundamentalist" Christianity - not with the validity of "modern learning".
