Senex_IV solo iron mage
Level One - went with magic on first level up, having sdold staff and wearing qa 9, sc 3.
Blue went fast and with one full red, one small ed it looked bad, then hit a Purifying Spring...heaven already.
Books of healing and Firebolt in first sekelton tome room.
Staff of Charged Bolt - 75 charges
Book of Charged Bolt near end of dlvl one. Spell is now levle one.
Level Two - Fallen Ones, Devil Kin, Ghouls, Corpse Captains.....
Book of Firebolt very early
Bladeskin (I think, brown one anyway) dropped Book of charged Bolt
Plain kin drops Book of Healing
Religious shrine to be saved
Scroll of Firewall for my buddy the Butcher, using immediately.
Firewall failed so after completing level otherwisee, returned to the Butcher, stari-trapped and used 53 charges of CB to kill him. He dropped a small axe, which is, and will likely remain, unidentified.
level 3 -
Procedding to three and invetigating cautiously as I lack both Holy Bolt and Scroll of Town Portal.
A book room looms into view immediately but is protected by burning dead archers, orange rats, and some weird bird-like creature. this tiny room contains but one bookcase, and rather than being stuffed full of books, as is common in the upper world, the case itself holds a singel volume...one Book of Telekinesis.
Unmindful of his earlier commitment to caution, Senex floods the enxt room with charged bolts, defeating a small group of skeleton archers in the process, both red and white ones. Returning to the pool, he notices, behind the stairs, a small room with two bokk stands in it and resolves to test his telekinetic spell on the books or scrolls therein at the first opportunity. At the pool sits a small man who sasy my friend Ogden has asked him to find me and to sketch a picture of me to hanf in the inn. I fear this is a sign of Ogden's concerns regarding my safety but allow the little fellow to go ahead. VEry quickly he produces a most lifelike picture of me, there in my robe, wielding a buckler and a fairly sharp sabre I have found.
Returning to level three, I test the spell and behold, a book of healing appears on the floor and aat a second cast is transported to my backpack. I pause briefly to read it but it is quite repetitous, in every detail like the previous. However, the room seems to hold more and from a tiny room nearby, I can see a bookcase as well as an open tome upon a stand. What willthey be? ooho! another book of telekinesis and two scrolls which are ;abelled "for health of the body". Perhaps I shall read them later, should the need arise.
A skeleton has dropped a staff which I can discern no use for, other than as a blunt weapon. It si dfefinitely magical in some way but has no effect upon me or my surroundings..perhaps, had I a companion, it sould be of value. A lovely long bow has fallen into my hands, also, though I am not able to use it. I must grow in strength and dexterity for it to be of help, but I shall bring it along in hope and in faith.
A tiny scroll ...town portal....an escape route, I suppose, should I meet something uncontrollable.
Here stands a shrine, beautiful and moist fascinating, but I know not which gods it addresses and will not pray here. mayhap I shall do so later, when my knowledge of this dungeon is more complete.
the birds of this region are most vile and bite one dreadfully. Wounded, I must return to the spring and purify myself, that I not succumb to a fever.
I have discovered some lovely armor, of hardened leather; it seems to be of about level 12 protection and in good conditon (25/40).
I have come upon a great horde of archers. They stand and fire quite bravely at me as I attack their troupe with bolts of fire, felling them quite easily, but their numbers are overwhelming and I must needs retreat. Very close to them is a stairway leading deeper into the chambers beneth the church.
A vast horde of the pague-bearing orange rats sallied against me and fell to my charged bolts, even unto their leader, who greatly resembles the drawings from the south of a demon known as El Chupacabra. Could it be? The foiul beast has dropped a gigantic war hammer. I am barely able to haul it to tthe safety of the spring, much less to wield it as a weapon.
There is a most beautiful Eldritch Shrine here, which will, I understand, magically transform my potions. I shall essay it when I have more of them and hope for the best.
I have found Leoric, though have not yet introduced myself. Should he prove unwilling to yoeld, I fear that I may not be able to defend myself and so proceed to ....
Level 4 -
My dread is tinged with excitement as I meet the denizens of this level. There are dark skeltons which are true horrors, goatlike figures, some of the small red kin of the devil, and yet more skeletons, their bones in red and white, their bows quick and arrows sharp. And yet...I grow strong. I can feel the powerr in me increase as they fall.
I tremble and my heart beats fast. I have somehow awakened the great Skeleton King from his rest. He approached and I, loathe though I am to admit it, ran in sheer terror. Still, I must pass by him again and again as I refresh myself above then descend again to the fourth level. But wait, I have found a way. Leoric is hidden away now, having followed me until I escaped to the surface and he unable to follow there. He and his band guarded a room of books. I had hopes it would give me the key to destroying him but it did not. I am more able to heal my body though and may discover the secret magic of two items by means of the scrolls I found there.
A new door nearby cannot hide the eerie glow behind it, seeping through the very walls. What manner of demon may be hidden there I know not, but very soon I shall find out. Whatever he may be, I am sure that he guards the second spring of purity to be found within this dreadful maze of rooms.
The wretch nearly refused to die but when he did, this smaller version of the king let fall a large axe...so large as to appear a great axe, and most certainly wicked.
Having returned to the fourth level, I discover a chest containing two books. Neither is teribly helpful. One shows the way to heal one's companions. This is untimely as I seek alone. The other somewhat extends my telekinetic ability, thoguh I can not yet break open the barrels which abound hereabouts.
Continuing four...many scrolls of flash and health, one book of firewall and a composite staff, showing no spell but magical nonetheless.
Nothing further of note here.
To Level 5 -
Stats clvl 11
20/20. 75/75, 20/20, 20/20 Life 40 Mana 170 ac 21 to hit 60 damage 5-8 zero resists
Spelles - FB 4, cb 2, Heal 4, HO 1, FW 1, TK 3
Stalkers and goat archers....burnig dead and horrors as well
Staff of Healing, 28 charges
I have found a scroll of Infravivion and another (the first) of mana shield. I suspect that at some future time, they wil be most useful.
A scroll and a staff of stone curse (14) and a scrollof identity have dropped to the ground, as has an axe too unwieldy for me to manage.
Another infra and birds have appeared
the birds seem to just Blink inot existence in a new position from time to time,a s the fancy strikes them. They ahve a leader it seems. Yes, Wrathraven appears to have been impervios to the effects of flames but charged bolts dropped him from the regions of the ceiling to the floor,a s a gray puddle. He dropped a Falchion.
Begin Level 6 - clcvl 12
Winged demons, familiars, gray rats, brown dogs and black birds
Boss dog dropped LA ac 11, durability 11/35 - not identifying just yet
Levelled to 13 and added to strength (now 25) so that I might use any small shield or armor that is reasonable and becomes available).
Armor Stand - ring mail ac 19 - turned out to be Grand Mail of Radiance - not quite what I had hoped but better than much.
Also here, a Book of Lightning and a Book of Firebolt. These shoud be most useful in coming levels. Also some scrolls.
Level 7 - A shrine, Abandoned and guarded by Winged Demons and inhabited by goats of the Night Clan. This type uses bows rather than direct attack and so their smell is somewhat lessened. Lying within the confines of the shrine room is another scroll of identify. Having used one already, I am cheered by the discovery. A shield, rather too large for me as yet, though perhaps I shall grow stronger. It is much nicer than my tiny buckler, and according to the makers stamp upon it, provides an armoring of ten points. And now, an amulet, brightly glowing, which I found tucked into a large chest. It must have lain there a long time, as the trap in the chest did not work, but merely ejected the amulet as if it were a thing of bad taste. I shall return to town to identify it. I greatly hope that it is not a misuse of an identification scroll. Hah! Were I a great beefy warrior, I suppose that this Eagle's Amulet and its 23 hp would be of greater value thanit is to me.Still, wihtput the powerful mana shield, all is of help.
The filthiest ands smelliest of the goats, Gorestone, is dead. He seems to have had an accident with a firewall I must have dropped. He left a large axe, quite magical, when he passed over. Another amulet found but, thanks to a slight head wound, my memory of finding it has gone from me like moonlight in sunshine. Appropriate, as it is an amulet of Radiance.
This level also had the third Purifying Spring of the quest.
Level 8 - (pictures taken at stairs down from 70
Fire Clan archers, Magma Demons and more brown dogs...
Book of Stone Curse...handy but I would have preferred Mana Shield
e stairs down, just south of those up, a second rligious shrine, which again I shall simply save for later use. Oneof the Magma Demons here dropped a Book of Charged Bolt.
Incredibly...a Book of Fireball from a case and a magic two-hander from a barrel.
Here I made a neary fatal mistake. I returned to an undone dead-end room. It had sevral goast adn two or three dogs in it. I cast a firewall badly, and only then did magma demons and several more goats erupt from a back room which had been beyond my view. It was necessary to drink one of my precious blue potions in order to defeat them and survive. For my luck, I was rewarded with an Amulet of the Moon. While this makes me more likely to die from attack, it also makes me more dangerosu as the attacker, and so I wear it happily. I belive that there now remains but one Scroll of Identify.
ASIDE: A HINT When your mana globe is empty and magma demons follow, be very very careful not to turn into a dead end. I did not, but I could have.
The leader of the magma demons (nmae not caught..my hearing is poor) dropped a Hunter's Bow in excellent condition. Sadly, working with my mind as I do, I am not in good enough condition to use it.
one of my trips to the spring, I noticed that I can see the merest edge of what seems to be a bookroom of to the east. Fingers crossed! ...Not what I had hoped for. The room yileded a second Book of Stone Curse.
I feel that I may now be able to defeat Leoric. I have left him some time now to ponder with no minions to disturb him.. I can only hope that there is nothing left of the good king who became this monster. My plan: one stone curse by scroll, onne firewall and firebolts to follow, stone cursing as necessary from my own knowledge.ad thought that there were very few staves in this game, but came upon a second staff of charged bolt on levle five as I made my way back to Leoric. I must remember to go back and collect it when I am not so laden with scrolls. (DEAD END WEST OF STAIRS)
This plan cost a total of 80 mana and I had no need to dip into my store of potions.
The ashes of the old king's bones lie in a chamber at the north end of the third levelbeneath the town's church. Amidst the ashes lies a l;arge axe, the only tangible evidence left of Leoric's brief reign as the Skeleton King.
Level 9 -
I have had no opportunity this far to note my adventures here. As my torch gutters out and I return to the spring to rest and purify myself, I dread the return to this horrific place. It is as hot as hell is reported to be, with rivers and lakes of roiling lava and inhabited by the fiercest demons imaginable. There are great creatures looking by their color as if they wore no skin at all, except for some few brown patches over the pink that characterizes them. They hurl great bolts of lightning. The only thing I can say in their favor is that they seem peculiarly susceptible to burning, turning to heaps of black ash at the merest touch of a fireball. the other here are no less fearsome, for all their more mundane appearance. Black doglike creatures run at me as though to be ppetted, then spit gobbets of jellied acid or scratch terribly. Worst of all are those who seem most like myself. Man-shaped and fleshed, invisibe at times and a ghastly bright yellow when they can be seen, these Weavers of Illusion hit incredibly hard, having the capacity to nearly kill me with one powerful blow. These keep me awake for hours as I sit at the spring,, imaginingthat they have followed me secretly, as they most certainly do on within the caves below me.
The cost in potions has been bad. I have used at leat three and more probably four, including one of the large yellow ones that restores me to ful health and mana.
On the bright side, the leader of the pink monsters is as thoroughly roasted as a goose at the turn of the season and I have found a ring in a box which adds much to my dexterity (16). My armoring is enhanced by this and is now rated at 42.
Also wonderful was the discovery that one of the doggish beasts had somehow carried a Book of Holy Bolt which fell neatly at my feet when the beast died.
Level 9 complete - with another amulet (unidentifiable) from a box and full helm added to my colelction. The helm is not magic, but at levle 18, I added another five strength to allow me to wear such improved armor as I might find.
