I don't know if Frank Taylor has contacted you yet, but here is the brief version of a response to your question; let me know if you would like more and if so give me your email address so I can attach it. Note that I do not have Louvia marrying Cooper. I would appreciate your giving me whatever info you have on this line. I believe Dempsey was the son of my ancestors, Britton and Elizabeth Wilson Taylor, who came from Nash County, NC to Whitley county in 1818. Please excuse the jumbled format, as Word doesn't always copy well to an email format. Arnold Taylor

Dempsey Taylor3. He was born in North Carolina about 1815 and married Ann/Anna Meadors on 10 February 1842 in Whitley County. She is called Anna in a deed they signed in 1866. Whitley County Deed Book 6-466. He died in 1893 and is buried at the Andy Davis Cemetery, which is said not to be far from the Pleasant Home Church, in Winfield, Scott County, Tennessee. On 5 April 1844 he received a grant of 100 acres on Gillico Creek by virtue of (?)Whitley County Order Book 16, page 425. On 18 April 1851 he received a grant of 150 acres on Marsh Creek by virtue of Whitley County Order Book 51, page 362.
We learn a number of things from a suit filed against him in 1859 by John Frederick in Whitley Circuit Court over a tract of land called “the Mountain Place” and a 50 acre tract under an 1850 agreement. The land may have been acquired by a relative, Benjamin Taylor, from B.D. Ward; Benjamin sued in Whitley Circuit Court in 1861 to get land he called “the mountain place.” One of Dempsey’s witnesses was Reuben Meadors, who testified that Dempsey married his daughter, and later pleadings refer to her as Anney. Dempsey could sign his name, barely, and spelled his name “Demsey.” At the time of the suit, or by 1861 when it was noted that Reuben had died, Dempsey was a nonresident of Kentucky, residing in Scott County, Tennessee. Ann was born in Whitley County on 29 December 1825 and died in Scott County, Tennessee on 3 January 1886. She was the daughter of Reuben and Jane Campbell Meadors. The 1850 Whitley and 1860-70 Scott censuses give us twelve household residents, although it is not certain that they were all children of Dempsey and Ann. The names Jemima, Melton and Kiziah (Kissah) all spring from the Meadors/Meadows line. A chart provided by Martha Harrison, originated by Christine M. Stinchcomb, provides information which I have not verified and in fact contains what I believe are errors; however, I will give her information for future benefit and checking.

Reuben Taylor4, born about 1843, is not listed by Bowman. He appears in the 1850 Whitley County, Kentucky census, age 7, but not in the 1850 Scott County, Tennessee census, where Dennis appears, age 17. I suspected Reuben and Dennis were the same person. However, Stinchcomb lists both of them. She says that he was born 4 March 1851, that he married Elizabeth Cooper on 4 January 1872, that he died on 20 October 1920 and that he is buried in the New Light Cemetery at Winfield, Tennessee.

Dennis Taylor4 was born 20 January 1843 in Whitley County and married Serepta Ellswick (1845-91) on 5 December 1863; he died in Scott County, Tennessee on 20 October 1916 and is buried at the Andy Davis Cemetery. He is listed by Bowman as the first child. He may be the Dennis Taylor who was in the same Company (G) of the 2d Tennessee Infantry Regiment, U.S.A., as was Britton. That Dennis was 20 when he enlisted on 25 October 1861 and deserted at Flat Lick, Kentucky during May 1862.
Nancy Ellen Taylor5 was born on 28 April 1865 in Winfield, Tennessee and died on 15 June 1946 in Winfield. She married LeRoy Russel Wilson in Winfield on 10 October 1878.

Martha A. Taylor4, born about 1845, married Gideon Strunk on 2 January 1862. Stinchcomb says she died on 18 February 1936

Mindy J. Taylor4, born about 1847. Stinchcomb calls her Minda J. and says she married James Gibson in Scott County, Tennessee on 1 September 1870.

Jemima Taylor4, born about 1845 according to my notes, but Betty Weiss and Bowman say Jemima Jane Taylor4 was born 29 January 1849. She married Eli Cooper (1849-1929) on 11 December 1871, died on 31 (or 3) March 1922 and is buried at the Pemberton or Cooper or Cooper-Cross or Marcum Cemetery in Oneida, Tennessee. CHECK

Joseph Taylor4, born about 1847. He is not listed by Bowman or Stinchcomb.

John Taylor4, born about 1849. No listing by Bowman or Stinchcomb. A John A. Taylor was in the 2d Tennessee Infantry Regiment, U.S.A., Company E.

Reuben Taylor4, born in Whitley County on 4 March 1851, married Elizabeth Cooper (1854-1916, daughter of George Washington and Emily Wilson Cooper and sister to Eli) on 4 January 1872; he died on 20 October 1920 and is buried at the New Light Cemetery at Winfield, Tennessee.

George Melton Taylor5, born 8 November 1872, married Lavisa Carson; died 10 February 1958 and is buried at the New Light Cemetery.

Julia Ann Taylor5, born 6 May 1874, married Joseph Stanfield and died 16 January 1933.

John Dempsey Taylor5, born 6 December 1875, married Arisa Owens on 1 January 1900 and is buried at the New Light Cemetery.

Barbara Emma Taylor5, born 17 May 1877, married Milton E. Terry.

William Sidney Taylor5, born 28 June 1879, married Nancy Sweeney.

Kissah Florence Taylor5, born 18 April 1881, married Manuel Stephens.

Mary Ellen Taylor5, born 25 July 1884.
Madell ___6, born 21 March 1905, died 6 October 1996, married Ryle Byrd. The grandmother of Betty Weiss8.

Rhoda J. Taylor5, born 8 February 1889.

Roxie Taylor5, married Leo Dane.

Lana Taylor5, born 25 February 1893, married Hawk Sexton, died 11 April 1955 and is buried at the New Light Cemetery.

Unknown Taylor4 born 4 March 1852. The Whitley birth records show a child born that date, but does not list a name.

Louvica/Lavisa/Linsey/Louisa Armelda Taylor4, born 4 March 1853. The Whitley birth records show an illegible first name, followed by Rmelda Taylor, and the transcription lists her as Louisa M. She possibly married Josiah Minor, but that is not confirmed. There seems to be confusion between this person and Lois.

Nancy L. Taylor4, born 13 January 1856, married William Chitwood on 26 February 1879.

Lois C. Taylor4, born 1 October 1858, married James L. Litton on 3 January 1876.

Kissah/Kezziah E. Taylor4, born 6 February (or 14 March) 1854, married Andrew Davis (son of Wilson Davis and Lucinda Chitwood). She died 20 February 1906 and is buried in the Andy Davis Cemetery, Winfield, Tennessee.
