Nancy Catherine Croucher/Crutcher

by (no login)

I am trying to locate my gggrandmother Nancy Catherine Croucher, b. in Kentucky in unknown, died Jellico, Tn or Kentucky on Jan 23, 1885. She married Aaron Jonas Bell between 1865 and 1867, I believe. She and Aaron had three children: Robert E. Lee Bell, b. Feb 17, 1868 in Kentucky, Rebecca Bell, b. Nov. 27, 1876, and Wade Bell, b. unknown. Aaron was from South Carolina and ended up in Kentucky somehow after the War. They lived in Kentucky from 1865 - 1885, in various places. A James Croucher witnessed a document for Aaron in 1882 and gave his residence as Pine Hill, Rock Castle County, Ky at the time - maybe a relative of Nancy. Can anyone help me find Nancy Catherine Croucher Bell or give me tips on where else to look? Thanks!

Mary Thomas Davenport

by (no login)

Hi Arnold;

I came across your inquiry for Mary Thomas Davenport. I've been in touch with Roger Moore for quite sometime. I'm guessing you are the Arnold he keeps talking about? Anyway, I have an old photo of Mary with her daughter, Rusha, Rusha's husband, Harlan Moses and my grandparents, Nancy Ollie Angel and Ancil Thomas. It was taken not long before both Mary and Rusha died. What other info are you looking for on Mary? Perhaps I can help.

Helen Thomas, sister to Daniel Thomas married their first cousin, John Parks. He later became a minister....the famous Rev. John Parks that flew through the air. I don't know that I have the info you're looking for, but I'm willing to share with you what I have. Let me know if you'd like a copy of the old photo with Mary and Rusha in it.

Warm Regards,
Sandy

James Patrick of Dublin Ireland or Scotland, 1700s

by (no login)

I descend from a James Patrick of Dublin, Ireland or Scotland who came to VA or NC in the late 1700s. He married a Cordelia (Courtney) Sykes and had 5 children: James, Bryant, William, George, and Andrew Jackson. The family moved from North Carolina to Whitley County, Kentucky, sometime before 1810, and the family remained there in Kentucky. Does anyone have any information on the background of James? Does anyone have information on the children of James and their descendants? Thanks a bunch.

There are a lot of Patrick researchers, so you may get more info than you want, but I will email you what I have on the Patricks, with the caution that nobody has really proved that he married Courtney Sykes, as far as I know. If you have such proof, we would all like to have it! Arnold Taylor

My husband says that Bird's Eye Ky is in the Cane Creek area of Whitley County, Ky. From Cooks Church at Cane Ck., go east on Keswick Rd/ Gatliff Rd, instead of left, stay straight, go toward an old mining camp. In this area, it is called Bird Eye.There are no houses now, just all grown up!

Preston C Rains - L P or L T Rains in Ky

by (no login)

Census 1870 Whitley Co Ky:
P C Rains 31
Sarrah A 24
L P or L T Rains age 9 born KY

I am assuming this is PRESTON C RAINS born 1839 Ky married to Sarah A Floyd born 1848 Ky. They were married in 1866 Whitley Co Ky and first child not born until 1871. The father of Preston, Allen Greenberry Rains, is just a few households away.

Does anyone know who L P or L T RAINS age 9 is in this 1870 census? I am looking for Lit T Rains who was born <1860> Ky and living in Scott Co Tn married in 1880.

Were either Preston or Sarah married prior to their marriage?

In the 1880 Census listing in Danville, Boyle, KY there is a listing of a Deaf school with George F. Lupton and his wife Loola as head. Living there is Francis Pennington, a student, 13yrs. old born in KY.
He would have been b. about 1866, which would put him at 34 in 1900.

May not be your grandfather, but wanted to tell you.
