James Sherman Sumner

by (no login)

Hello Harold,
I left you a post at one of your other messages so I won't reiterate the same information. I have James Sherman Sumner married to Fannie Hinkle in my data base as well. I obtained the information I believe from one of the Hinkle sites at rootsweb, but I am not positive. I have no other information on him other than Fannie's sister, Permilia also married a Sumner who was Solomon F. Sumner born in 1864 the son of James B. & Olive Cox, Sumner, my GGG grandparents. Solomon was an uncle. And her other sister, Mary Elizabeth married my ggg grandfather, Mark Sumner's son, Joseph Hehoida Sumner born between 1843 and 1847.

I know that your James goes in the Sumner line somewhere, I just haven't figured out where. I can't fit him into the Sumner line.

In order for him to have been born in about 1865 James would have to have been a son of one of my uncles or cousins in the next generation of Sumner's.

Fannie was the daughter of James Hinkle & Delanna Davis who is also related to me on my Davis line.
This line of Davis is off of Jobe Davis line.

Cheers, Donna Walters

James Sherman Sumner

by (no login)

Thanks for responding to my inquiry about James Sherman Sumner. He was my grandfather, and My dad`s name was Albert Sumner.

I started out trying to trace my dad`s ancestry, and along the way I located my grandmother`s ancestry back to the 1700`s. Unfortunately, I could not locate a hisstory for Albert Sumner beyond his marriage to my mother Melvina (Mellie) Earls.

In the middle of all of this I got behind in my work, and had to give it up for awhile. I lobby the Kentucky General Assembly for a group of insurance companies, and will be busy until April 15. I hope to get back on the search soon after that date.

Thanks for the information you gave me. I know itwill help when I can get back on the trail.

Faulkner____Duncan connections

by (no login)

I am looking for Martha J Faulkner that married Chesley H Duncan in Campbell Co Tenn in mid 1800's. In the Vital Records for Whitley Co. I find the birth of Frances born Sept 17, 1856 to Chesley Duncan and Martha Faulkner. On Dec 10, 1858 is the birth for James born to this same couple. I find Chesley involved in other marriages, but no more record on Martha or the children. I would like to find out what happen to Martha and the children. I believe that they had an older daughter by the name of Malinda, what happened to her. Does anyone have any information at all on this family. All help appreciated.

1880 Census pg. 216b

Under Henry Anderson and Rebecca you have a question mark by his son's name Calvin. This name is correct, his nickname was Coly and he was my great grandfather. Also on this same page under the Jonathan Mowery family you have his 10 year old daughter's name wrong. She married the Calvin Anderson above. Her name is Manila Mowery.

What info do you have on the Monholland/Monhollen side. I am looking for a James Monhollen b/abt. 1869 who married a Lela Russell b/ 7/1897. Her parents were Hugh Russell b/5/1868 TN and Maggie b/4/1871 TN (according to the 1900 Whitley co census. The info I need is James Monhollen's parents. They could possibly be James Monhollen and Elizabeth Young, but I am not for sure. You see I have been looking under Holland, but the surname Monhollen came into it. Brassfield/Boosfield

by (no login)

Sonja, I believe the family listed on page 178A as Boosfield, J.L. to really be Brassfield. I think this is my great great great grandfather, John Lindsay Brassfield. The names and ages of his daughters match up, and I think the son listed as "Edison, 8" would actually be Addison, and his age matches up as well. Addison would have been my great great grandfather Ambrose Addison Brassfield. Addison died at a young age sometime in the 1890's just after my great grandfather was born. Probably in or around Whitley Co. Is there anyway to research obits or a death index to try to find out how he died? Thanks, Chris Brassfield
