  • Is a license from one's home country required for the H-1B?

I received some papers from a US hospital with some information regarding H-1B visas. Within those papers, a page listing some of the requirements for H-1B visas said that, among other requirements (ECFMG certificate, passing all 3 steps, license from the state of intended employment, etc.), one of them was "a copy of the license or registration from home country, translated to English".

I immediately called a friend who is doing her residency with an H-1B, and she told me she had never heard of this. However, she's already a PGY-3 so maybe things have changed...

Obtaining a license to practice from my home country would mean working for one whole year, which would completely ruin my attempts at entering a residency in the US next year.

Could any one of you please clarify this situation for me? Or, if you don't know the answer to my question, would you know where to recommend me to search for this information?

      Thanks in advance!
