I'm sure that you've figured out who I am but since no one's done any guessing I'll keep the Anony bit. :-)
This is third in the "Out There" Series. Sinbad is wearing his second season outfit (because I can't stand his first season outfit). Maeve has been apart of the crew for two years. She and Sinbad have been trying to have a relationship but…well…read and find out.
(This is a first for me so if it seems awkward its because I'm a gung ho B/Ser. And contrary to how it starts out it is not an M/S story, I thought I'd address their "relationship".) Tell me honestly how I did. Please?
If You Don't Know By Now
The sun crested the horizon over the ocean water warming the water. Sinbad and Maeve were having a painfully honest conversation for once, discussing exactly how they felt.
Sinbad sighed and looked at her, what they shared wasn't enough for him anymore. He wanted more, he felt very empty inside, like an important part of him was missing. Things between them were unsettled and no matter how much they talked they never got anywhere.
Sinbad sighed, "We've talked it out for hours and you're still having doubts
Shouldn't love be something you don't have to figure out
How can I ever know just where we are
If you can't tell me what is in your heart
If you don't know by now
How could tomorrow ever change the way that you feel
If you don't know by now
I guess you never will."
Maeve looked at him and opened her mouth, he raised a hand and looked at her. She settled down, impatience in her features. He continued,
"Never had to question that I loved you I just knew
Guess I took for granted that you loved me too
You say you don't know if you're love is real
And you need some time to find out what you feel
If you don't know by now
How could tomorrow ever change the way that you feel
If you don't know by now
I guess you never will
There are just some things that forever cannot do
Like make you love me the way that I love you."
"Maeve, I do love you but I can't live in this limbo. I've decided that we should be just friends."
"I'm sorry, Sinbad. I wish I could be different but I can't." Maeve stood up, "Dim-Dim is going to come for me soon. I better get ready." She left him on the deck.
He stared out on the ocean waves, eyes filled with tears.
"If you don't know by now
How could tomorrow ever change the way that you feel
If you don't know by now
I guess you never will."
Bryn sat up in her new bed, her heart felt heavy. Her bracelet glowing softly, she looked at it and once again wondered where it came from, where she came from. *Something's wrong with Sinbad. She didn't know how she knew but she did. She closed her eyes and concentrated, seeing him on the deck of his ship. "Hi, Sailor. You look a little lost."
Sinbad looked up at the soft voice. "Oh, hello. I do feel lost. Have you ever loved someone and felt like a failure?"
She smiled and sat down by his side, her face veiled by her cloak. "Can't say that I have but it must feel awful."
"Yeah and the sad thing is, I thought we could make it work. For two years I put my life on hold because I thought she was the one. How could I have been so wrong?"
Her heart pulled at the confusion in his blue eyes, she put her arm around his shoulders. He rested his head on her shoulder, feeling safe and secure for the first time in two years. Bryn was a little surprised at how connected she felt with Sinbad.
"I don't think you were wrong. From what you've told me, you two shared a common goal. Spending time with each other, leaning on each other's strengths, it's not surprising that you fell for each other. But experiences mature and change one, sometimes you grow together and sometimes apart. It's not always easy or painless."
Sinbad considered her words and opened his mouth to reply when the sounds of life stirring below caused her to pull away. "I've got to go."
"Wait." She looked at the hand which held her arm, "Are you real or only a dream?"
She smiled, "No dream, I'm very real."
"Will I meet you?"
"Aye, Sinbad, and soon."
*Funny how I feel more like myself when I'm with you than with anyone else I ever knew.
Maeve brought up her stuff and looked at Sinbad. She thought he looked different, more peaceful somehow. "Well, this is it. Wish me luck?"
"Now and always, Maeve."
"I hope you find that someone."
"You know what, I think I already have." He turned and saw Dim-Dim, followed closely by a young lady. She was wearing a long sleeved, pale blue dress. Her dark hair was held back by a clip and her dark eyes were warm. "Master Dim-Dim, so good to see you."
"Its good to be seen, my boy. Maeve, are you ready?" She nodded but looked curiously at Bryn. "This is Bryn, you'll find her a powerful asset in the fight against the dark forces."
"Welcome aboard." Sinbad extended a hand to help her up and noticed her bracelet. "We seem to have the same taste in accessories."
"Yes we do, Captain. You have a lovely ship. How many knots does she pull in?"
"She goes as fast as she needs to." *Where have I heard that voice before?
"That's wonderful. From what I've heard, your voyages are seldom peaceful." Bryn looked into his eyes and smiled to herself, *wouldn't you like to know? But I'm not telling.
"I hope you have a taste for adventure." She just grinned at him. Dim-Dim looking on, smiled, knowing that things would be all right.
The End.
