Auto-Italia Car Concours, Stanford Hall - 1st June 2008 - CONVOY DETAILS AFTER LUNCH TODAY
February 5 2008 at 1:09 PM
(Login Ozrical) Big Bad Mod from IP address 195.92.35.134
Another great venue and another one that we regularly attend this is another chance to get that Italian-Metal fix!
This year there will even be a FIAT and Abarth Concours and we have been invited by Auto-Italia to display the best examples from the club on this stand which will be entered into the judging for best FIAT/Abarth/Car on the day. I would therefore appreciate nominations for which car you think should be on the stand and why. We will then open up the nominees to a secret ballot and BOO and BOOM Members will each get to vote for the cars they think should represent us. I have asked for confirmation of what they will accept as concours (usually, concours means original condition I'm afraid) but will confirm when I know.
The UK's Premier Italian Car Concours for top quality Italian cars in the UK, will again be held in the grounds of Stanford Hall, the elegant stately home near Lutterworth, in Leicestershire, on Sunday 12th June. The main features will include the Midlands Section Ferrari Owners' Club Concours, the UK Maserati Club Concours, and a general concours for rare and interesting Italian automobiles. In addition to the main attractions there will be Italian car club displays featuring the very best of Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, and Fiat.
Previous events at Stanford have been fantastic. We were situated by the side of the lake in the glorious sunshine for one of them.
Put your name down here if you're coming along with the rest of us stating login name and postcode. This is one not to miss and hopefully an even bigger turn out than Brooklands.

Seems like I should mark the event somehow, so the mule and I may make this our last appearance before we part company (gives me the excuse to finish a few bits off too....has it really been 4 years!!??)

Our intention is to look at the cars that turn up to Brooklands and shortlist cars that attend for the Concourse at Stanford. Another good reason to get yourselves to the events this year.

OK, I've suggested to the organisers that they come to see us at Brooklands and help us to understand what would be suitable for the Concours. Will be interesting to see if they take me up on the offer.

I shall be coming with the girfriend. Probably two cars, my Marea and her Sei. Will she be welcome to park her car with us? Not sure if we're coming from my house or hers yet so both postcodes are NN11 4EG, and LE3 2AD.

I'm also going to nominate Insys Brava for two very good reasons: -
1. It's pretty close to standard barring the alloys;
2. It means he will HAVE TO bring the Brava.
- - -
Oz, sorry for not getting back to you sooner, been meaning to. Thank you for the nomination, it certainly made me smile.
There are 2 reasons why I'm going to have to decline however:
1. I don't think I'll be able to make the show
and
2. If I do come, I'd rather my Brava take a sideline rather than be a focal point if it's chosen in the ballot. Although I'm proud of my car and believe it to be of a high standard I wouldn't be keen to have it on the stand representing the club as I think its the wrong motor to have on it. Although not heavily modded, it does hint it's been tweaked with and for a concours stand, I think it would look out of place. Sorry
It's the one thing that has always struck me about Brooklands and what I've heard passer-bys mention before - Bravos and family do on the whole look a bit 'Max-Power', which consequently makes them a bit like marmite for those looking at them. The motors we have turning up to support the club are on the whole, modded in some way or other. Very few of the attending cars are original and I think perceptually this puts a lot of people off them.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not putting everyone down or being negative, just giving some justification and background as to why I think it's best my Brava is not in the limelight on this occasion. Thank you all the same tho Oz and to anyone who would have voted
Brava: Mar 99 1.9TD / 48,500 miles
Coupe: Feb 97 20V N/A / 131,000 miles

OK chap. I'll respect that even though I don't agree (if you know what I mean). Personally I think your Brava is of an extremely high standard and a credit to the club. However, I can see what you mean about the cars that turn up to represent the club but without the passion of modders the range could very easily go the way of many of the "niche" italian models and just disappear. This is something that the old school Auto-Italia mob fail to appreciate I think.
In the "Good old days" people didn't modify cars and so the people that run such organisations do not appreciate the work involved and don't get it. They are purist and that's fine to a point but how many of the 70s / 80's FIATs turn up unmodified these days? Very rare to see a MK2 127 Sport unmodified let alone an Uno Turbo. The passion for keeping cars in good condition is generally with the modders these days as cars become increasingly "throw-away" items, especially in the mass market.
Anyhoo, 2p spent and back on topic!
