OK, i am going away for a few weeks but i need the cambelt doing on my car, it is getting up to 60K and has not yet been done so i knw i need to get it done asap.

The problem is i am in abit of a dialemma, the car is worth the best part of £1000 and i wil not spend £400 on getting a cambelt change done as it is just so much and if i sell the car i wont get the money back.

I am after either selling the car as is, great condition, just a scratch on the side or doing the cambelt.

Does anyone know of anyone who can do the cambelt for me for a good price, or is it something you would suggest i try myself, i will normally try anything on a car and have no problem getting my hands dirty but i dont want to do something that could knacker up the engine.

Anyone got any ideas??

Cheers guys - Ill replt in 3 weeks after the holiday!!

Mike

thats expensive for a cambelt on a 1.6

i also am getting my cambelt done on my 1.6 marea weekend and the cambelt kit is about £75 for a gates kit so they are going to charge you £325 labour to fit it thats expensive i think

andy

just phoned fiat out of interest and they want £104 for the cambelt kit and suply and fit they would charge £252.12 and thats if you have got air con it would be a little cheaper if you dont

it is possible to do yourself but you will need some cam locking tools to make sure it goes on in the right place when refitting

and all depends on how handy you are with a spanner!

cam belt is a fairly easy job on the 1.6 , just seems daunting when reading Haynes etc. it is really much easier than it looks.
