For a long time I have been always been been complaining about not having any boot space due to having a huge bass box with twin 10" subs.
So i decided enough is enough, i wanted my boot back but also wanted the 'bass'. So this weekend I decided to get my finger out and built a custom box from scratch, designed it myself, made it from MDF and carpeted it to match the interior. Here is the outcome...
What do you think? I'm very happy with it and the quality (as if it was purchased from a shop), now I can play my music and use my boot. I'm going to make some custom chrome grilles for the speakers when i get some more time.
My old bass box is for sale, £10. Buyer must collect.

Well to build and make it took me 2 days, i will not say it was easy to do as it wasn't not in the least but i'm sure with enough hard work and patience you could also do it yourself. The hardest part was making cardboard templates. The cost of materials wasn't much either as its only MDF, glue, carpet and audio accessories. I had all the necessary tools to cut and shape the box.
In regards to getting access to the spare wheel, well the box doesn't obstruct the wheel at all, it is about an inch over the tyre. so if i remove the tools, i can easily withdraw the wheel with no effort at all. Or i could remove the box, simply by dropping the seats down and removing.

Sub Box enclosire? Air?

That looks awesome, can i ask how did you measure the amount of space needed in the box for your subs? Or is it a box that has the cone for air in? Or do they use the air inside the existing boot?
I am thinking of doing something myself but have always found that with the size of the box (i.e exactly like yours) i can only get 1 sub in the enclosure so i would need one either side and i really dont want to do that?
Also i have made sub boxes in the past but not for a long while, on the inside did you use some form of resin to seal them - if you could post up and ideas of price that would be ace.
Awesome box dude, Better than shop bought as it matches your car and blends in perfectly!!
Mike i didn't measure the amount of space needed, i just made sure the subs had plenty of room. The box is not fully enclosed, which will also answer that i never used any resin between the mdf. I'm no professional audio specialist and the car isn't going to be attending any special audio shows, its just for me to have the subs neatly fitted to one side while at the same time giving me back my boot.
The cost to make was roughly £25.
Adrian when i pop round to see your progress i will show you in person my custom box.
Kris, the amp is held onto the back of the seat with self tapers as MickeyBravo mentioned. All it takes is 4 screws and it holds like dog sh1t to your shoe.

That looks smart mate, i was tempted to do similiar in my old bravo but i ended up going the opposite way and just filling the boot instead.
I must ask though, for a 10" JBL i thought you require a large box to get the best quality out of the sub? or have you lost some of the quality to gain space.
eg my 15" 1500rms big daddy i had in the red bravo had to have a box that filled the whole boot or when really cranked up the sound would be come distorted as the air was pushing out too much on the cone?
Quite right, I've had to loose some of the punch from the subs, but a tweak on the amp and its running pretty sweet again. But its only a small price to pay, to get my boot back.
