Air bag warning light

Had to take my stering wheel off my 2001 Bravo 1.6 which meant disconnecting my airbag, when I put the wheel back on and connected up the bag the warning light is now on. Is there a reset that can be done. I know in a beamer you turn the ignition on and hold the accelerator pedal in for 7 secs. Is there such a reset for the Bravo or will it need to go to the doctors....

Thanks

doctors only im afraid chap.

I know it's a bit late now, but when removing the steering wheel, disconnect the batter at least 45mins before to stop the light coming on.

Now it is on, it can only be reset with a plug-in from fiat sad.gif

Hang fire

Had an email this week from a helpful user of the forum who may have a solution to this problem. He wrote a how to guide which I need to browse through before posting.

Hopefully I will get it on the site tomorrow eve

I'm doubtful this 'how to' will work Wimmy, unless its a way to prevent the light coming on permanently by using a resistor or a loop back.

The only proper fix is to use a diagnostic cable, i was in the process of making a Fiat 3pin diagnostic cable but just dont have the time nor a Fiat with 3pin diagnostic ports to play on.

Of what the guy said in his mail, it did involve making a cable. Watch this space

OK.

Here's his guide.  Unfortunately it involves software, laptop and cables.  I cant be held resposible if it goes a litle tits up

So basically as we said, goto a dealer or person with the equipment. To make your own cable it'll cost you around £20-£30. The cable i have can read the airbag ecu, engine ecu and abs ecu.

Unfortunately no use on the pre-ODB2 cars. Also that diag sw won't tell you the fault so you'll still not know why the light came on.

Indeed, looks like your options are to either try the 'how to' guide or drop it into your local Fiat dealership.

I had the airbag light come on once with my 1.8. Fortunately I had knocked the main cables going into the airbag ecu loose. Refixed the connection and the light went out. I've not heard or seen anyone since have the same luck when it comes to the airbag light.

Hi,

I am the guy that sent that document to Wimmy happy.gif.

There have been reports of successful Airbag diagnosis and reset using the referenced software with the addition of the 3pin converter (btw, you can find it on ebay).

Apologies for not being more helpful here, I can only share my experience and hope you sort your problem out.

I don't have the cable anymore (I gave it to my brother) but if any of you feel tempted to give it a go, I am currently based in Leatherhead (will be moving to Cobham shortly happy.gif). Give me a shout if you need (Wimmy has my email address).

Oh, I have a Lancia Delta Integrale 16V... and I am looking for software to manage my IAW (aka ECU). You see, my mindset is all about being self-sufficient... And always determined to go to the very end.

Ta

Afonso
