My Brava 1.4 has been hitting the half way mark on the temp pretty constantly for about a week now. Turned it over this morning, and engine making a noise like someone killing a scabby dog with a cricket bat, and keeps cutting out. Have to rev it to stop it from stalling. Any ideas?
sounds like temp is normal. What is the heat output from heater? Never heard a scabby dog being killed with a cricket bat but i guess its not a nice sound. Is it a grating sound? maybe the ring gear or bendix on starter motor.Cutting out could be electrical or fuel.
Thanks for your reply. I've took it to a garage, and the mechanic said that I have 3 blockages in the pipe that supplies oil to the cam, hence the screeching noise, and cutting out on low rev. Not being a car expert, that means nothing to me. He quoted me £120 for replacement pipe fitted. I have noticed a small oil leak for some time, so i drowned the b!tch in oil yesterday, and it has got slightly better. Still making a metal-on-metal screech for about 5 mins when I first turn it over after standing for a few hours though. Basically, I want to know if anyone has ever had similar, and if so what was it, and are there any mechanics who can tell me if the quoted price is reasonable? (I've checked the belt, it's not that - noise coming from under the head, and blasts of air coming out of the oil cap - is that normal?)
Thanks.

I would think if the camshaft is making the nois like he says then the best thing is to clean the feed pipes and fit a new camshaft. You will get pressure through the filler cap
