Stu, any lights on the dash ?
Check the accelerator potentiometer connector in the car and when was the last time you changed your diesel filter ?
Also, check if the pipe to the inlet manifold gets hard when you press the gas - easy way to check the turbo.
Right i will try and check these!!
Any clues to where they are!!
Thanks people

Right....
1) check actuator pipes going to and from turbo
2) check pipes to EPG - the recuirculating valve for exhaust gasses
3) Check main turbo pipes from intercooloer and around the turbo.
4) check to see if actuator is stuck open on the turbo.
5) take it to a garage and get them to find out and quote u for a fix.

It's the MAF unit. Angel Tune can do a diagnostic and a remap for you. They do a diagnostic as a matter of course before a remap.

Right car had stopped doing this so being lazy i just put some forte diesel treatment in and left it.
Im wondering if its when the car gets hot as my radiatoris is poor condition?
Gonna try and check the pipes going to the turbo...does anyone have any diagrams of the other bits i need to check as im not exactly sure wat im looking at?
Thanks

I think this is definately linked to the car getting hot...but what would the heat be affecting?
Its not the maf, because the last time this loss of power happened, i unpluged it and the car didnt seem much better?
A blocked EGR when closed will do nothing, a EGR blocked open would cause the car to smoke and have sudden bursts of power.
I would perhaps look at the accelerator potentiometer (sp). But before i go replacing anything get the car on a diagnostic machine.
Or come to Bolton and i'll hook it up for you and check for errors.

"Was quite weird in that if you pumped the accelerator the car seemed to pick up just as you eased off the gas."
Reading again its diesel related, if it happens when the temp. rises its diesel pump related (low pressure one in the tank). Check the connector on it and when was your diesel filter changed ?
Hi all, have had the car serviced and asked the guy to have a look at the turbo re; the above problem.
The mech said that the turbo was fine (but i do need a new timing belt kit) - that wouldnt be the problem would it?
The mech said that the diesel filter was fine also, i think it is reasonably new (maybe 8 months old)
Anyway, the car was loosing power again the other day when i drove to holy island!! Im keen to check the things above but im not sure where they are located? could anyone help?
There is no chance of the intercooler being duff or something so the turbo is not being cooled effectively??
Its a total lack of power, i went out today after having a look under the engine cover and i drove her hard until she was hot.
1.She doesnt seem to want to rev past 3500 revs
2. There is no turbo kick AT ALL
3. There seems to be a clicking / ticking coming from the right hand side of the block.
Anyway she did the lack of power thing then i stopped the engine, had a fiddle with a connector on the right hand side of the block (dont know what it was plugged into) and started her up again. She seemed to drive fine, even when hot.
If you take a picture of what you messed around with in the engine bay i can tell you what it is. Have you tried contact cleaner on the plug you played with? Might be a bad contact.
But basically on the JTD if you suffer lack in power check the following...
- Air Filter for restriction.
- Airtake system restriction or air leak.
- Condition of fuel, fuel filter and lines.
- Accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor.
- Injectors.
- MAF sensor (common fault).
- Turbo Charger, Sensors and Acctuators.
- Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor.
- EGR.
- Fuel Pump Lift.
- Fuel Pressure Sensor.
- Fuel Pressure Control Solenoid.
- High Pressure Fuel Pump.
- Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor.
- Barometric Pressure Sensor.
- Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor.
- Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor.
