hi people,

I'm doing the Mongol Rally 2009 this summer and you'll be pleased to know my team have chosen a 1.2 Brava (2000) as our worthy steed.

We've done about 3k miles since we bought it pottering about the UK, but from 18th July it will be braving the likes of Europe, Middle East, and most of the 'istan countries. and for comedy value we are taking a small bouncy castle with us!

Just wondering what you people might recommend taking as spares, or if you think you know what might go first on the car, what would be best spares to take (bearing in mind we're trying to keep the weight down)?!

We had to change the gearbox & clutch when we bought it, and had some recently resolved power steering issues but apart from that it has been ticking the miles over nicely without issues.

So, if you have any helpful suggestions, any well wishes, or any expertise which might be useful, then please please post below!

Please poke about our website to find out more (perhaps even donate to the charities who we're raising for!? <-- just kidding, unless you're minted in which case please spare some cash for mongolian children) <br>

So any advice, good lucks, anything at all please post!

Thank you people!!

Plenty and plenty of gearboxes, even though you've already replaced it before happy.gif

What he said ^^^

Honestly you'll probably have no problems at all, although if you do it'll almost definitely be a new gearbox that you'll be after.

Good luck to you chap, I've always fancied doing one of these myself one day... maybe next year wink.gif

(on a side note a mate did the sister rally to the mongol, to Cameroon. Although they were in an allegro police car happy.gif )

You will have an amazing time. Thought it has to be a 1.0 or less. My friend went to do it in a Black Taxi but only got as far as Germany before the engine blew sad.gif

You want:
a sump guard
snorkel
all visa cards
bribe money
some basic language cards for each country
plenty of pot noodles
tools
a roof rack
progress tracker
emergency fuel/oil/water
make it comfy to sleep in
higher the ride height
