Battery issues - draw

Seems to be a re-occuring issue I have with my 147 in that the battery keeps going flat. I appreciate it needs to be run from time to time but in winter its flat within a week (if not run) and during summer 3 weeks tops seems to be its threshold.

As its currently having a 'flat period' I decided to run a quick diagnostic.

Battery is having in the region of 40-50mA pull on it with eveything off.

Now there is a Clifford Concept MK2 650 alarm attached which I appreciate pulls power in itself but is a total pull of say 50mA too much for a 3 week period?

The battery is a Varta 470CCa 53ah rated battery.

I'm no expert when it comes to electrics so if anyone can shed some light I would be grateful.

Cheers. I know this is for my coop, but might be useful for others with similar issues happy.gif

50mA doesn't sound too high, especially if its got an LED on show, however it sounds like your battery is dead. If you drain a normal lead acid battery too far they become damaged and won't hold a full charge ever again.

have u checked the plates inside the battery,

buy the clifford intellistart unit this moniters the battery power and automatically starts the car to put charge in battery, but all your alarm stays armed

Thanks Tom.

There is a led on display but sounds like the battery has given up.

It took a battering during the winter and did lose all charge twice when it was really bitter.

Think it was c**p to start with and just hasn't done well with the random and infrequent usage of the coop.

Any recommendations on a replacement Tom? Budget is flexible.

I've noticed Bosch Silver S5 batteries come with high ratings, just not overly sure on whether they are actually any good happy.gif

Bosch silver or Varta silver, used both on various vehicles and never had a problem with them.

Lovely. Existing one is a Varta (although not a silver, think its one of their 'dynamic' - bottom end range) so think I'll go for a silver Bosch.

Ta muchly.
