hi everyone
iv had my car for around a year and a half now. 6 months after i had it, the head gasket went on it ( its a 1.2 16v if u havent guessed already!). soo the car was put in the garage and me and my dad changed it, doing everything we thought was correct. we had the head scimmed, and was told by someone who specialises in that engine that it shouldnt go again.
i had a look at it last night and im pritty sure its gone again!

any ideas what i can do this time to ensure that it wont go again?

iv heard rumours about there being an improved gasket that you can get for the engine which limits the chance of it going.

any ideas would be great
cheers

Its a bit unusual for it to go this soon. Perhaps the head wasn't skimmed properly or you have another fault that is causing the head to go. However as shaun mentioned, how do you know its gone for a second time?

In general it wont go so soon or if you dont overheat the engine.
The common reasons for it going so soon are:

1. the gasket was not put 100% right on the block.
So the ring on the gasket for the piston gets burned through

2. the gasket was bent in transport so it has a gap on the metal ring(s)

3. the head cant be skimmed any more to a 100% even surface.

4. the block is not 100% even surfaced.

head skimming Ha hA jokers, thus only needed if if head damaged or warped !
Garages tell you this to stitch you up for money!

a gasket is there to adjust the difference between two mating surfaces and allow for temperature changes!.

If the suspect gasket is leaking again, then that sugguests a cracked head or block ! and no gasket will fix that.

Numbeer 6, your half right IMO.
First he didnt say what the problem was the first time the gasket went - owerheating, ... so maybe skimming was necessary.
Second, only way to be 100% sure the head is straight is to get it on a skimmer, if it needs skimming you do it, if not you just take it off the machine.

Dont get this as an attack, just as a pointer.
