Oil pressure?

Hi, i've recently bought a bravo 51 plate 1.2 16v, to be honest i wish i didnt. wipers dont work, drvers door handle broke off and now the new thing is the oil light comes on and off, stays on when idleing but can sometimes go off and sometimes goes on and off when reving or can stay on all the time?. I tried changing the pressure switch (with an old one i had from my punto spotring) no change, the oil that came out when i removed it was not to good but ive seen worse. the oil is on minumum so may be worth changing that but i can see me blowing loads of money and getting no where, mot and tax is up end of this month so i'm thinking of calling it a day if its the oil pump. anyone had this problem? any advice? is the oil pump a huge job?

Why haven't you tried changing the oil yet of topping it up if its on minimum? When you fill the oil max sure you get the level between halfway and maximum.

the marks on the dipstick are there for a reason.Warning light is telling you that there is not enough oil in the sump. As said level should be midway between min and max.taken on level ground: Plenty of posts on here regarding wipers and door handles. Could be the stalk for wipers. a good guide on that as well

Topped up with some of my mobil 1 but no difference, light still comes on but it seem at random no pattern to it and eventually just stays on.. i know what you mean about min/max but ive had 51 cars and unless its got near nothing in there it doesnt usually affect oil pressure. as for wiper i'm buying the motor set up as the arm does seem to make it click, and it moves if you move it by hand if you know what i mean.

Try this for the oil system, maybe gunged up somewhere, should help. If you can move the wiper arm manually it sound like the splines have gone. Take the arms off and see if the motor is working

I would also check the wire from the oil pressure switch as it could be earthing somewhere caused by rubbing etc.

Thanks guys, getting some engine flush and new oil and filter and see how it goes hopefully will sort it out. even if it is the oil pump failing i suppose it would be a lot easier to push fresh oil around a clean engine..

Also i took the oil cap off whilst the engine was running, you can see the top of the cam and it appeared to be no oil around it? and it rattles like an old ford. looks like is starved of oil. any ideas? oil pump?

Either a blockage or a duff pump

had people telling me it could be bottom end, but that wouldn't cause the cam to get no oil would it?

If bottom end shells have gone you will get all kinds of stuff in the oil tube. It must be knocking at the bottom end if it has gone, You will hear it. Hardly worth doing a rebuild nowadays, You can pick a decent engine up faily cheap

Would have thought it would make a hell of a noise if the bottom end went, and wouldnt it misfire or run badly??.. my engine just sounds like a really tappy fiesta, probably because the top end is running dry.. when i changed the oil the engine actually sounded normal for a minute or two then started the knackered ford noise again. will be glad to sort this out. hopefully not the engine as the rest of the car doesnt justify fitting a new one..

Bits of metal in the oil, another bravo bites the dust, going to drive it to the scrap yard tomorrow. I was told the 1.2 16v used in the car is a very poor engine and i think i agree. thanks for advice..

I have found the engine very reliable and nippy. You have got one that has not been serviced properly. Fresh oil every 6 months is a must for any engine, be it Fiat or Ford

the 1.2 16v engine is brilliant, my punto has this engine, 130,000 miles later runs like a dream, just keep on going :D

It's allways easier to blame the machine and not assume any responsability.

1.2 16v it's a very nice and reliable engine. Enough said.
