Survey Results as of June 30, 2002

June 30 2002 at 12:33 PM
Rey Carolino

The following 50 people have filled-up the BalikPaete Survey. Estimated attendance based on this email survey is 150 people. Here are some facts about the survey:

2 registrants are from Australia, 7 from Canada, 1 from China, 1 from France, 1 from Germany, 1 from Japan, 1 from Malaysia, 1 from Saipan, 1 from Palau, 7 from the Philippines, 1 from Saudi Arabia, 1 from UAE, 25 from USA.

55% of the respondents prefer Holy Week as the reunion date; 28% prefer the Christmas break and 17% prefer Fiesta.

We need to have a better idea of the total attendance so we can choose a Reunion Resort suitable to that number. If you haven't filled-up the Survey form yet, please do so now at this website address:

Timing of BalikPaete 2004

June 30 2002, 12:35 PM

Just some comments on the times chosen for the Balikbayan 2004:

(1) Easter Time - Late March or early April, kids are still in school in N. America and Europe. Easter break is too short. Not a logical time to take vacation for people in N. America and Europe, unless one is retired. Advantage: good weather

(2) Christmas - High season. Children are on vacation between Christmas and New Year. Vacation too short for a long trip coming from the other side of the globe. End of Fiscal year for many businesses. People engaged in accounting, bookkeeping etc. are usually no allowed to take a leave. Advantage: good weather (i.e. acceptable to people spoiled in the temperate zone).

(3) Fiesta - Summer in N. America and Europe. Most logical time for people to take a vacation. Children are out of school. Best chance for kids to see ancestral country for extended time. Disadvantage: weather, rainy.

One interesting observation about the statistics to date: There is an inverse ratio between the most popular time (Easter) and the biggest prospective representation (N. America).

Calling all Parents in North America

Tama ka diyan Ver. Kaya kailangan sigurong mangampanya tayo against the Holy Week break. Dahil ako ay malabong makasama kung Holy Week nga ang magiging date. Calling all the Paetenian Parents in North America, send us your votes ASAP baka makahabol pa tayo...

18 people from North America voted for the Holy Week schedule. And here is why: all of them (except for two) don't have children in their entourage. They don't have kids to worry about in their holiday breaks. As expected all those based in the Philippines voted for Holy Week.

Ver, mahirap sigurong manalo ang Fiesta at Christmas dito sa scheduling ng Balik Paete. Unang una, siguradong lahat ng nasa Pilipinas ay Holy week ang pipiliin (doon lang ay talo na tayo). Ikalawa, divided ang mga anti-holy week reunionists between Fiesta and Christmas. I prefer Christmas dahil two weeks lang naman ang pwede kong ibakasyon sa trabaho..

What if we don't count the votes of Philippine-based reunionists in the scheduling, tutal sigurado namang wala silang problema miski na anong time of year natin gawin. Any objection to this motion?

Do we want to encourage those who have not been in Paete for some time? If that is the case, can we
multiply a person's vote by the number of years he or she has not seen Paete?

Just a thought, it is not democratic, but it adresses the issue of encouraging those who have not visited to have a bigger voice. I mean, after all, the title is "BalikPaete".

I second the motion, Angel. I think that is a good idea. If anyone has any objection to this motion, please let us know. If we don't hear any objection, I'll consider it a sign of approval from the members and will send an email to all survey participants to indicate the number of years they've been away. I will also revise the Survey Questionnaire to include this question.

I would also suggest that if after July 31, the chosen date of the survey participants would not command 50% of the total votes, then a second ballot be conducted with the choices limited to the first two dates in the first ballot. Any seconder to this motion? Any objection?

Rgds,

Rey

I just hope that Phil-based reunionists would consider the situation of
people coming from abroad. Coming from Manila to Paete is relatively easy
compared to one coming from, say, the US or Canada or Europe.

Well, let us aim for the most convenient time for the most number of people.
I am realistic; no one time will be convenient for everybody. Let us vote.
